    Default CBR: Pipeline - May 3, 2011

Augie plays catch-up with "Invincible" and likes what he sees. Also, take a trip back twenty years to look at "Wizard" #1 all over again and a look at the past week's news items.

I used to have that Hulk poster Todd's signng in that photo. Can't believe I didn't take better care of it. Todd's stuff is so awesome. I guess he and Gareb Shamus knew each other for quite a while.

There's an issue of Wizard (#50 I think) where Todd talks about how he came to be friends with the Shamus family. Gareb's dad had McFarlane's portfolio case fixed as a gift, and the cover of Wizard #1 was originally a sketch that McFarlane did as a gift to them. When Gareb and the rest started up Wizard and wanted to use that image as a cover, all McFarlane had to do was ink the sketch.

Oh Wizard Magazine...how I loved thee...like a fresh overpriced issue of some Image comic that wouldn't have a second issue released for MONTHS...I just kept coming back for more.

So sad that as the years went on you relegated yourself to not reporting, since the internet was faster, and you just made lists of the top characters, moments, covers, etc. You not only defined 'obsolete' but it was stunning that we saw your demise due to the internet and yet you never stepped up to the plate to use your once known brand to carve a niche out for yourself as superior sites such as CBR and Newsarma because the "go to" sources.

You'll always have a fond place in my heart...right along side my issues of Bloodstrike, Darkhawk, X-Nation 2099 and anything else 90's related.

    First off, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

Now, I'll admit to falling behind on Invincible too - but volumes! I missed ordering vol. 11 and then had 12 & 13 sit around until a month or so ago when 11 finally arrived after being on backorder forever. Then last week vol. 14 showed up! I just started reading a Hellblazer tpb, but after that I'll make a commitment to Invincible! Also, I just met Ryan Ottley on Saturday - great guy! I'd have gotten a sketch or something if I didn't already have an Invincible vs. Walking Dead commission in my house (you can see it in the back of Inv. vol 3 - which I had him sign).

I think Secret Warriors is worthy of 1 mega volume. I'm totally loving this series and I'm sad it has to end. I also think that with all the twists and turns it takes that it will read a bit better in a collection, if only because it's easier to keep things straight if you read it in chunks. I want to re-read this from #1 when it's over.

EDIT - Augie: the link to this thread at the bottom of this week's article didn't work. I don't think it worked last week either.

I'm way behind in Invincible too..... but I collect the hardcovers! I just got Volume 6 last month and I have only read Volume 1 (which I have completely forgotten by now). Hmm... I wonder if should move these books up my reading list.

I think my first issue of Wizard was around 7 or 8 so I always thought that they were always a full color magazine. Never knew that the first issue was mostly black and white. For all the criticism that it gets now, Wizard was a GREAT magazine in the 90's and I couldn't wait to get my issue even if I could hardly afford it that time. Read the issues from cover to cover as well.

I liked Wizard for the price guide mostly, until I found a REAL one. I also loved the 1/2 issue offers. I still have some action figures I got from offers like them too!

Sportflix!!! I was a big baseball card collector between 86-93. Still have 'em! Only now they are in plastic tubs in the attic and not my parent's house.
