Default Superman renounces American citizenship (spoiler Action 900)

Superman renounced his US citizenship in Action 900 to be a citizen of the world. Truth, Justice and The American Way apparently doesn't cut it anymore. No good reason to do this. The faux reason given is bull. DC has lost a 35+ year reader. I'm sure I won't be the only one. I expect this stuff from Marvel not DC.

Did you read the issue, or read an article about it? Because the reasoning in the issue is pretty sound.

So what? Superman hasn't been an "American" hero for ages. In story, they've made no secret he considers himself a man of the world first.

And frankly, you can't be much of a fan if such a small thing makes you drop everything. It's not like they changed it to "Truth, Justice, and the Communist Way" or something equally radical.

We are not living in the 1950s at the height of the Cold War. Superman should be a citizen of the EARTH, not any one country. The people who are bothered by this kind of thing bother me in real life. Nationalism is stupid.

Just makes me like the character even more. Superman is for everyone, and he'd be perfectly willing to take the slings and arrows of American public opinion to make that clear.

I think it was Gail Simone who said he stands for "Truth, Justice and the Right Way." I love that.

Well to be fair they already that one didn't they?

(although it does imply that if Superman had been raised in Stalinist USSR the world would eventually have become an utopia...before getting blown up)

    Well played.

As to the OP, it's weird that this makes you drop the title, rather than the decades of boring, mediocre work done on the titles (other than All Star).

But it also was because of Luthor, an American capitalist, so...

Superman was an American citizen... who knew?

Did Clark Kent also give it up?
'The marquis. Well, you know, to be honest, he seems a little bit dodgy to me.'
'Mm,' she agreed. 'He's a little bit dodgy in the same way that rats are a little bit covered in fur."

But Luthor is an american capitalist in both reality

Althought reading tvtropes it made me realise that the fact luthor actually changed very little from what Commie-superman (Utopia through dictatorship) did might in his new establish order (something I didn't quite detect when I first read red son)

I prefer "Truth, Justice and Peace", and wish I could remember what it orignally was from. It predates Superfriends.

I really liked all the stories in 900. Everyone did a great job.

Good question. Says something about him and his sincerity if he didn't.

Yeah...I just going to ask. I figure Clark Kent holds U.S. citizenship, but Superman's citizenship status has always been...fuzzy, at best.
