i've hand it in my hands before but didn't pull the trigger. the last time i considered it, i went with vol. 2 of the BPRD hardcovers instead (which is another steal of a deal).
and i left out of my other post how much i loved resident alien in issue 4 as well. after the first few pages, i didn't think i'd like it much, but then the scene with the alien after his crash completely drew me in.
i'm really looking forward to issue 5 with the eric powell alien story!

I've been reading (this incarnation of) DHP since issue #1. It was a bit of an impulse purchases at the time, but I picked it up for two main reasons. A) Hooray, the serial Anthology isn't dead yet; and B)8 bucks for 80s pages and no ads? Full Color?! This might be the best deal in comics! EDIT: Oh yeah and C) FINDER!
So yeah. The first issue was a serious mixed bag. I was let down early by the Star Wars preview and the Frank Miller preview. Because... those were just glorified ads IMO. But Finder was good, Concrete was good, and Marked Man was interesting. Mr. Monster was a bit rubbish and I could take or leave Snow Angel. Issue 2 was better, through Blood was entertaining mostly to see how crazy Neal Adams continues to be. Issue 3 was great if only because 100 pages for 8 bucks! You can't beat that! Treatment was also a pretty cool story. Number 13 has potential, Red Tide seemed to be another advertisement, and honestly stretched the definition of what a 'comic' is, and Rotten Apple is pretty cool. Oh and I got my letter printed! Yay!
Issue #4 though, has to be my favorite issue so far. New Beasts of Burden is a big plus. Marked Man finally captures my imagination (those last three pages are just great moment to moment storytelling Chaykin's still got it), Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse's Resident Alien looks to be a promising Sci-Fi yarn. I'm new to Age of Reptiles, but I liked what I saw. Just an over all satisfying issue.
So glad I jumped on this series. I'm digging it a lot, its such a great source of independent comics in genres I like. Upcoming Hellboy by Mignola is very exciting, but I think I'm most excited about Doc Shaner's up coming serial Buddy Cops. Shaner is a serious up coming talent. To see him published fills my heart with joy. Oh and Brian Wood's The Massive. That should be good too.
So much good stuff in DHP. So great. Its just my kind of comic book.

eric powell's isolation is by far my favorite thing in any issue so far.
and the dog mendonca story is continuing to impress me.

Great issue! Favorite stories being Isolation (though, to be fair, its the sort of sci-fi I've read before), Finder, Resident Alien, Marked Man, and Number 13 (getting really crazy, with wacky character designs. Love this sort of sci-fi. Rotten Apples just sort of... ended, great art but a tad incomprehensible). Dog Mendonca I'm on the fence about, nice art though. Blood is just AWFUL. Criminal Macabre feels like a story I'm coming in half-way on (which... we probably are), so I don't have a lot of interest. Great issue. This book is on FIRE!

Has DH said if they're going to do any collections of the serial stories?
I've only been getting DHP for stories with characters I'm already buying/bought (Star Wars for issue 1, Beasts of Burden for issue 4, etc) so if they do any collected editions of the Neal Adams or Chaykin stories I'll buy those in a heartbeat.
I think the reason I feel issue #4 was the best issue of DHP* so far is mostly because Blood was MIA. It's just so... Incomprehensible.
*Issue 5 beinga very close second. What am I saying, they've all been great. Except for maybe issue 1, if only because the Frank Miller and Star Wars previews felt like a waste.

Just read this month's installment.
Finder continues to be excellent.
Skeleton Key (never heard of it before) was cute.
Eric Powell's story was a fun Twilight Zone riff, and beautifully drawn.
Criminal Macabre and Dog Mendonca continue to be enjoyable monster-mash type yarns.
Resident Alien gets cooler and cooler.
BTW, I never knew Neal Adams was crazy (Still, he drew the best Batman for some time, so he gets a lifetime pass).
i'm really starting to enjoy this story too. i wasn't really what to make of the first few chapters as i had no previous knowledge of the book. anyone heard how long this story will be in DHP? if it continues to impress, i might have to pick up that omnibus dark horse recently put out.

I've been fully converted into a fan, loving The Finder Library Volume 1 (will get vol.2 and Voice soon enough).
As for where Finder is going, well, here's Carla herself mapping out upcoming stuff (around 2:35)
