CBR: "ThunderCats" Are A "Loose" Take On Original

The trailer is pretty amazing and the animation is slick and stunning. I think this is one of those "they got it right" reimaginations because they stayed true to the original but toned down and amped up the right parts instead of the low brow "darker" take or wasteful/insulting "everything changes" attempts.

I look back at CN's reboot attempt of Masters Of The Universe and while I think they had some of the right ideas I could feel in just watching the pilot that it was a miss. The whole Skeletor origin was a bit contrite for me and the animation wasn't the greatest. I'd still wish they'd go back and do as well as they did with this ThunderCats re-do.

Hopefully this will be a success and they can mine the untapped riches of other animated fan favorites like She-Ra and SilverHawks.

Count me as someone who liked the Masters of the Universe. It wasn't perfect but having recently watched an episode or two of the original series, I can say that it was pretty good. I also enjoyed some parts of the newer Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, though that got sillier the longer it ran on.

I thought it was pretty great too, I own the whole series on DVD. It had more than a few mediocre episodes but overall the animation and the general feel of the show was great. I'm hoping the Thundercats cartoon doesn't meet He-Man's fate though, ultimately the show was canceled not because of viewer disinterest but because it didn't spawn a high selling toy franchise like the original cartoon did.

I like the stream lining. Making Thundera a nation on Third Earth instead of Planet is much better. Also takes out the whole Krypton feel of their origin which as I grew older didn't like. I hope though they still have space adventures somehow.

really looking forward to this. the animation looks awesome, as do the toys. i always wanted the Sword of Omens as a kid and never got it.

Y did dey have 2 make him luk ssooooo damn old?

We like dat dey made him a muscle giant but 4 craps sake y did dey hafta make him have d bald-top head? Y not a full set of hair like Conan d barbaian or other d 'Rock' in Scorpion king or sum dreads.......sumthing but not dat?

Panthro is a fav....y did dey hafta make him luk so unkool. Hopeful he kicks sum serious *** in combat.
