Something I just thought of: What implications does the Zuffa buyout of SF have concerning Nick Diaz wanting to pro box?
I love how in the article they mention that UFC is following the WWE media model because WWE has banned Dave Meltzer from events. The fact is if CBS sent Meltzer to report on WrestleMania WWE would welcome him with open arms. Even in the era when WCW was winning Vince would not turn away CNN reporters just because they were owned by Turner. And he appeared on Bob Costas' HBO show, a division of Time Warner. Zuffa meanwhile is being pissy because CBS aired Strikeforce shows in the past and so they are "punishing" the largest television network in the Unites States. Real smart idea, guys. Real smart.
I don't like the Pacquiao/Mosely match-up. First of all, I like both guys and don't want to see either one lose. And also, I see it as a high-risk/low-reward for Pacquiao in that unless if he scores a spectacular KO, even if he wins he'll only have beaten a guy who's already lost to his only real PPP rival Mayweather. And I think Shane's still dangerous - much moreso against Pacquiao's aggressive style than he was against Mayweather's safety first attitude.
Eh, at this point Pac's really only trying to improve his ATG status and make a shit ton of cash. However, the only established guys who'll clearly improve his ATG cred are either not in his weight class (Martinez), ducking him (Floyd), or guys he's already beaten (JMM). He could fight some young up and coming champ (Berto or Bradley), but no one is guaranteed to become a world beater.
Mosley at least brings a big pay day, and is a name fighter to add to the resume. He's past it, but of the options Pac had, this was probably the best one in terms of risk-reward (as Marquez is freaking dangerous).
If we don't get Floyd-Pac, I would kill to see Pac-Martinez, even though Pac would probably get annihilated.
The Jaw Squad is dead. Long live the Jaw.
I think Martinez is too big forP ac, but I've been saying that about every opponent he's taken on for the last 2 or 3 years, so who knows.
If Shane does lose badly I hope he retires, maybe after another farewell victory or two against lesser fighters. Not that I think he's totally lost it yet, just want to see him go out before that happens.
