Default Deadpool Discussion Thread "Breaking the Fourth Wall"

Been reading uncanny x-force and am fairly new to Deadpool. He has been my favorite out of the team alongside wolverine. Was thinking about picking up a couple of the first issues of his solo run. Where's good to start with him and do you like Deadpool?

I think the Deadpool character is cool. I just think that today's writers aren't natural-born comedians so the stuff they write isn't exactly funny. It's like some of them took notes from Looney Tunes.

If I were you, and was looking for a Deadpool book suited for new readers, I'd pick up Deadpool Max. It's light on continuity (it doesn't take place within the core Marvel Universe) and it incorporates a bunch of the character's history in fun ways you wouldn't expect.

There's also a point one issue of the main series for new readers, and if you plan on reading the Fear Itself event he's got a mini going along with that too.

Stay far, far away from his current series, and pick up the Deadpool Classic trades, featuring the Joe Kelly run on the character, which features the definitive take/run for/on the character.

Pick up the Cable and Deadpool TPs...some of the best DP stories ever. Then get Deadpool Classic TPs by Kelly 1-4 to get a better sense of the character. Then get Way's current ongoing 1-20. After 20, they get pretty iffy. For god's sake, DON'T get the MAX series. As a huge DP fan they're the worst books yet. You will NOT get to know the character through these.

Seconded. I'd stay far away from Way's Deadpool, and the various other current titles featuring Deadpool (except Uncanny X-Force, obviously). Joe Kelly's Deadpool is the best.

Come on, Way had some fantastic arcs early on in the series. The Bullseye/DP story is one of the best DP stories ever. Suicide Kings was good, as was the Skrull invasion. So was X Marks the Spot for that matter. The first 20 issues are pretty good.

I'm interested in getting into deadpool too as I've always enjoyed the character, just didn't know where to start. Cable and Deadpool is only like 50 issues in, right?

    go to instocktrades.com

    Pickup:

Deadpool and Cable Ultimate Collection Vol. 1,2, and 3 TPB'S

If you like that, pick up Deadpool: Suicide Kings TPB

    AND

    Deadpool Vol. 1 (Current Series)

These are some of my faves...I can't wait for Uncanny X-force to come out in trade. Deadpool was great in those books.

Unlike the others, I found the Joe Kelly's stuff mostly bland...Deadpool Classic Vol. 1 is a great read...but the following trades become snoozefests.

I like Way's stuff better than Kelly's... I haven't gotten to Simone's yet, so I will reserve judgement.

Honestly, I'd read issues 11-13(?) of the current series (the story where he fights Bullseye during Dark Reign). Other than that, I'd mostly stay away from his current ongoing; the quality of story is rather inconsistent, in my opinion. The Deadpool that appears in Uncanny X-Force is probably my favorite version of him out there right now, so it's definitely a good place to get some well-written Deadpool.
