    Default James "Bucky" Barnes Appreciation

Seeing as it's been formally announced that Steve will be back as Captain America this summer, I thought why not start a thread to honor Bucky since his return as the Winter Soldier and subsequent stint as the most successful replacement Cap ever.

So let Buck see your appreciation in this thread dedicated to the one character we all thought would never come back!

Disclaimer: I did a search and couldn't find a thread for Buck so I started this one. If by chance I missed it, I apologize and obviously would want it merged with the original thread.

Bucky coming back got me into Captain America. I really hope that even if he gives up the Captain America mantle, he will still be a major part of the Cap comics.

(Crosses fingers that he keeps his ongoing)

Bucky has been one of the most consistently enjoyable characters to follow in recent years. I'm very much hoping Steve's return to the mantle doesn't get him shafted.

Maybe Marvel will be awesome and we can get two great Caps. DC has certainly managed to do justice to Dick Grayson after all.

But with Fear Itself and Steve's return to Cap coming up, I'm just worried Bucky is going to get the short end of the stick. If he can't stay Cap with Steve coming back, at least let the guy finish out his tenure as Cap on a positive note rather than in disgrace. He deserves it!

Bucky is just a great character and I love when Brubaker is writing him.
For me he is better than Steve, both in personality and characteristics.

This. As far as successful stints as Captain America replacements, Bucky is by far the best and I just like his costume better than Steve's old one.

I did dig John Walker as Cap. That was fun seeing Cap out and out murder people. Ah memories from the 1980's. Sorry, a little off topic.

What was the outcome of his being a commie stooge during the trial thing?

I have not been buying Cap.

One of my favourite characters since his reintroduction. I really hope Marvel finds a place for him in the MU. He deserves it!

And Brubaker does an excellent job with him. It's a shame about his pathetically written run on the Avengers, but on the positive side maybe he'll be working with Nick Fury more now.

Bucky. The boy who used a killing weapon besides Captain America and his shield during WWII. Most warriors, unlike Cap, did use guns and kill. That is war.

They have always had a good working partnership. Cap doesn't treat him like a student. He knows Bucky is a warrior in his own right. They trust each other completely.

He isn't just a fair weather friend to Cap. Nor a fair weather warrior. He is the Winter Soldier. He is the man.

I freely admit that, back in 2005 (or whenever it was) I was not convinced that ed Brubaker *would* bring back Bucky and when it became apparant he *was* I was amongst the nay-sayers who said it would never work but, through his story-telling Brubaker showed me that it could.

Since his return, I have enjoyed watching Bucky first regain his memories and then grow (yes, grow) into the role of Captain America. Bucky is not Steve and is a different sort of Cap but it has been fun watching Bucky grow comfortably into the role (at least until Sin revealed his past).

I know that CAPTAIN AMERICA is becoming CAPTAIN AMERICA AND BUCKY in July but, as we all know, that is said in the past. I really hope I don't have to resort to that for my fix of James Buchannon Barnes. Others may have been Bucky's to other Cap's but I am enjoying seeing the one, true, original Bucky in the current MU.

I really hope that FEAR ITSELF does not signify the end of Bucky in the current MU. Whether he remains Cap or takes on another identity I hope we see more of him in the MU. I don't want to *have* to read stories of Buck set in the past.

    Cheers.

    James.

While Steve Rogers has always represented the ideal, I've always considered Bucky to represent the reality.

He has a different symbolism to him that i find more relatable. Above all, he symbolizes perseverance, something i admire.

He was someone who went to war without superpowers, yet stood triumphantly among their ranks. And even after what happened in the war pretty much broke him, he did everything he could to set things right.

    Like a Boss.

I love Bucky! He's my favorite Captain America. What Bru has done with him has been nothing short of amazing. I love that he was the only invader without powers, but was just as needed and respected by the others. All he had was brains and a tommy gun and he was right there battling evil with the rest of them. To this day I still don't think he gets the respect he should, but Brubaker is making sure he will.

I have enjoyed Bucky as Cap immensely since he took up the mantle. His struggles in trying to live up to the legacy of Steve as cap. To his interactions in fitting in with the super hero community. He has been a great addition to the Cap mythos. I hope Marvel doesn't put the axe on Bucky he's too good a character to be killed off. As for me I don't think he should return to the role of Winter Soldier it would defeat the purpose of him trying to redeem his actions from that persona. I say give him a new identity.

looked at another way, Steve got shafted for Bucky's benefit. i don't think being Captain America has helped Bucky. i don't think he needs the uniform. it's a lot like Clint Barton becoming Goliath (to me).

The judge exonerated him with some line along the lines of "I don't know if you deserve to be Captain America, but I do know you don't deserve to be in jail." However, he was then immediately arrested by Russian agents for crimes committed during one of his attempts to escape being the Winter Soldier, for which he had already been tried and convicted in absentia. He's been extradited and is in a Russian gulag while Steve and others sort it out.
