Default The World Trade Center in Marvel Comics?

Some guy posted on the classics board about X-Men 189 from 1985, which shows a future with a destroyed World Trade Center.

He was wondering if that would make it worth something. It doesn't, of course. But that jogged my memory about other times when these iconic buildings have figured heavily in Marvel comics and were even damaged or destroyed. It's kind of inevitable that they would come up when most of your stories are set in New York.

The most notorious is probably in the adjectiveless Spider-Man 16, when during a crossover involving X-Force Juggernaut apparently knocks one down.

I also remember that in the first issue of Damage Control a giant robot falls and lies sprawled between them. Wish I could find an image.

So, any others? Please describe them and post images if you can. Not just times when they're damaged, just when they played a major role. We should remember the positive impact this important landmark has as well as the tragedy. And I don't think I have to tell you to be sensitive about it, it's still a horrible thing. I'm just interested in seeing and discussing how it was portrayed in Marvel comics over the years.

This is an image that always struck me as memorable, even though it's destruction really isn't dealt with or part of the story. The cover was as impacting for me as it would have been if it was another landmark, like the statue of liberty or golden gate bridge.

I never would have noticed this prior to 9-11, but the towers were a prominent part of the NYC skyline, so not unusual to see them there.

From Marvel's Star Trek: Early Voyages 10, released in 1997 and supposed to depict NYC in 2254:

There was a scene, not *very* long before 9/11 itself, where some buildings in a comic (I wanna say a Superman book, but maybe it was Marvel) were on fire.....in a manner that was eerily familiar, some time later, to the images of the WTC on fire. O_o

That's odd. Someone told me Juggernaut was actually crying when he saw the 9-11 aftermath in a Marvel tribute issue.

That's terrible. Juggernaut should never be written as a hero again. I'm not following his current appearances, but I know Marvel quite often redeem bad guys. This makes him irredeemable IMO.

I recall seeing a cover that had the towers burning and am airplane flying into them. i thought it was a Sub Mariner comic but just went through the covers and didn't see it. Anyone know which cover I'm talking about?

Yes, that art really is terrible, isn't it?

And what was up with the Juggernaut laughing like that?

Very shortly, the sliding timeline will mean that 9/11 happened before the FF took their rocket flight, so scenes like this one will be implicitly retconned.

Not directly related to the comics, but I recall an article where they discussed a scene in the first Spider-Man movie which would've involved him trapping the Green Goblin in a web between the towers. Admittedly, that would have made a pretty interesting, big-screen visual.

That was in the first teaser trailer for the movie. A helicopter carrying some bank robbers got trapped between the towers in a giant Spider-Man web.

......when 9/11 happened, that trailer disappeared quickly.
