I'm both amazed and a little unnerved by the art.
I will say that its good to see the Brood LOOK like a threat.
I like seeing the soldiers looking terrified as they're being rounded up and thrown about.

it's going to be very hard for me to enjoy this series with beast looking like a shaggy near-sighted dog (why is he even included at all....bobillo doesn't need this), but we'll see.

Beast looks amazing! Like a freaking killer monster! I love it.
The artwork in that book looks really nice and refreshing. I can't wait to see the finished pages.

I like the idea of a different team in Astonishing. Cyclops, Emma, and Wolverine are already stars of Uncanny X-men. They don't need to remain featured in Astonishing. It doesn't make sense to have the same team featured in multiple books. The X-men catalog of characters is too large to focus on just a handful. Beast, Colossus, Shadowcat, Lockheed, Storm, and Brand have the potential to be a great team. I hope that they become THE team of Astonishing because ever since Joss Whedon's run ended that book has declined. Uncanny has pretty much usurped it as the main book and rightfully so. Uncanny is more coherent and it comes out more regularly than Astonishing. I hope that this new team in Astonishing gives the book new life and becomes the basis for a new direction in the series. I would be more than happy to add it to my pull list if it offers something novel that the other books aren't doing.

Gage is one of my favorite writers at marvel so I might pick this up.

Not one mention in the entire article about Storm or Colossus. If this was anyone other then Gage I would say they are going to be wallpaper.

My first thought was "we reallllly don't need this book." Now I'm kind of looking forward to it.

Other than a truly horrible looking Storm in the cover/promo piece, the art looks spot-on. I hope the woman with the hood is *not* intended to be Storm...but if not her, then who? Rogue? Maybe Psylocke finally got rid of the Hooker Ninja outfit and went back to her cloaked Outback days?
