During the TAS Jean seemed like a motherly-type was this shown in the early 90's?

Hmm Magik dies need to read it. I'm surprise the comic doesn't shed any light on her motherly personality on the 90's comic! I would expect she would become a positive image for X-Men newcomers.

Yes. Beast fails to save her.

She's not necessarily motherly all the time, because the young mutants are out with Cable blowing stuff up most of the time. But, when Phoenix II and Cable are around, she gets super motherly. There are some motherly scenes with her and Stryfe, too.

She's definitely pressuring Cyclops into spending nice little Saturdays with her at Home Depot and Bed, Bath & Beyond at this point, too. They were super-married before they actually got married and this relationship dynamic also had moments of her being motherly.

I can't remember issue numbers, but the wedding/engagement era is pretty key. The wedding itself, the engagement and subsequent bachelor/bachelorette parties, the honeymoon (which includes The Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix), the Phalanx Covenant... Yeah, come to think of it, it's a pretty heavy motherly/fatherly/husbandry/wifely time.

I also loved when Bobby, Hank and Warren came to visit them (when they fought crows). God I miss that time in the X-Books! (No sarcasm either. I'm completely serious.)

I do too. Seagle/Bachalo and Kelly/Pacheco had something good until editorial interfered.

Here's a pic of Jean wearing a mask in Wolverine 125 when Viper brainwashes the women into attacking Wolverine.

Nice design, but there's too much green. Kind of reminds me of Poison Ivy. She appears later in that issue without the pointy mask, which I think works better. Maybe add some yellow in there to not keep it so monotone.

Red/white/yellow would be a good color combo on Jean if they wanted to go for a new color scheme.
