    TEEN JEAN

Not to rant but I've figured out my problem with the concept, I was thinking this over and trying to decide why I have such a problem with this and its because it's too gimmicky. Let me start by saying I think that it does have potential however ideas like this need at least a three year plan a way to get from points: A, B, and C, and most of the time there isn't one its just contrived. It also brings to mind the inevitable retcon that will come to reverse it when Bendis is done with his "toys".

And it also stuns Adult Jean's growth when she, as we all know, comes back because she either won't deal with the things that has happened since her death and reversal to "teenhood" or simply forget about everything she's lost which could of made for incredible stories the type of stories Jean needs. I've said it before and I'll say it now Marvel is solely responsible for all of Jean's missed opportunites anytime something organic or character driven is pitched for her its immediately REJECTED.

It's not a great concept, but really continuity isn't as important as giving the character a good showing. Even completely rebooting a character doesn't eliminate her history from her general conception, so some of those elements tend to weave themselves into the story even if they never happened in the strictest sense. The good ideas at least will be back with certainty, so as long as Jean is written well and is given lots of things to do in the new stories, it should all work out in the end. There's no doubt that her relationships will be addressed, and the Phoenix will definitely be back. We might even see the White Phoenix of the Crown come back, because honestly that costume is just too gorgeous to not be featured somewhere.

Indeed it's not ideal, but it has potential to do some good things. Namely we get more Jean stories (just with a younger less experienced version), and it allows them to do things with the character that they couldn't before since continuity can weigh down any character after a while. It's kind of like a soft DC reboot. All the heavy characters are still functionally the same people even if the history isn't the same. They act as you would expect them to act. I think/hope it'll be the same with Jean. She'll be still be sweet, somewhat quiet, and kind with a bit of a temper, but she won't be "NEW ACTION JEAN WITH KUNG FU GRIP AND RAPID FIRE MACHINE GUN!!"

At least that's what I'm hoping for.

My thought is that her mind and body even with instant healing was not prepared enough the cosmic awareness and raw power. Her body could have not only been healing in the cacoon but could have been also evolving to the point where it could house such power, as the later version of Jean did during Morrison's run. That Jean was emotionally, spiritually, and physically capable of containing the Phoenix Force without losing herself, something her 23 year old self couldn't do which is why a copy of her body was made by the force. The problem being that Jean's soul/life force was then sloit into two halfs, one for each body (original and copy), making her in the end more susceptible to manipulation and corruption (Dark Phoneix).
    That's a good theory, actually.

I don't know...maybe Jean should go to Kun Lun and train as a Iron Fist with Hope and a time travelling Fong Ji....They could call the book "My Three Jeans."

I love Jean's White Phoenix costume. When the late, great Dave Cockrum first designed Jean's Phoenix costume, that's the color scheme he used, but Marvel nixed it cos they were worried that the images and words on the next page would be visible through it. Of course, now that we have better paper stock, we don't have those problems.

The Phoenix costume probably has the biggest ratio of cosplays to actual on-panel appearances of anything in comics. Cockrum was definitely a real talent, how many other designs from that era still hold up to this day?

Well aside from the X-Factor years it seems like Scott's uniform doesn't really change that much between redesigns. It usually comes down to "hair vs no hair".

Jean's Phoenix look is really iconic which is impressive as it's probably the costume she's worn the least.

All this for Jean's return we'll see if they deliver. Axel says this stars the original 5 x-men, the present x-men and a 3rd entity. Any guesses on this entity? Also looks like Cyclops survives avx (goodbye Charles).

The pitch for that book is the original five X-Men coming into the present, and this may be the nerdiest question I ask you for a long while, but...how does that effect the time stream, Axel? If you're taking characters from the past and putting them into the new permanently, does that not alter the past?
Alonso: I think we're going to tread carefully. We're aware of all the ripple effects and all the arguments that come up. But we're going to get through this as quickly and cleanly as possible. The X-Men from that era are going to pop into this era, and all eyes will be focused on their journey of discovery. We do have one sort of quick little device that should help the purists reconcile how the time stream and the past won't have been changed. But again, we really keep our eye on the characters in the now dealing with a world that's changed and doesn't in any way resemble the world they hoped to be in by this time.

Are the five young X-Men the main characters in this series? Would you say the main X-Men we've had over recent years are, if not antagonists than at least side characters?
Alonso: I would say no. I'd say that the young characters and the current cast of the X-Men share time on the story. And there's a third entity I'm not allowed to talk about yet that will also share screen time. But the story is really about the effect of these young Lee and Kirby X-Men arriving in the present. It's both the story of young Jean Grey coming back and wondering why everybody is looking at her so weird, and it's the story of Logan and Cyclops coming to terms with the fact that this young girl, who they both fell in love with, is now back in some way, shape or form. That's what I think is going to make for such fascinating stories dual perspectives on this development.
