I think the best place for Hope is to be in a peripheral book. Not because I dislike her, but because at least there I know she'll be treated as a character and not a plot device (hopefully).

Honestly the only times I outright dislike hope is when writers forget about her upbringing and just write her as a generic fiery redhead and/or jean clone. I hope that if she does meet teen jean It's not a big thing or any kind of confrontation. If anything I could see them relating to each other as they were/are both constantly compared to someone they're not, or in Jean's case not yet.

It's weird because I think there was actually a bit of fan clamoring for teen Jean and Hope to meet, even more so then Jean and Rachel. I think Marvel shot themselves in the foot with the hinting that Hope and Jean might have some kind of connection, but never actually fleshed it out. AvX was supposed to clear it up but halfway through it became quite clear that Hope and Jean had no real connection at all because Marvel unceremoniously dropped the pretense. If there were any connection to be found at this point it would have a hard time not coming across as completely manufactured.

So Hope is just another green eyed, red haired woman with near godlike potential (provided she's standing next to someone who actually has a real power) who has a knack for imitating Jean's holy savior poses.

Personally I don't think it's likely that young Jean will be in the book regularly, counting that she's pretty young and inexperienced compared to just about everyone else around. Plus the letters page of ANX #5 says that Jean is the core of that title so while she may make guest appearances elsewhere that's likely where she'll stay for right now.

Plus I'm thinking XX will have maybe two to three A-listers followed by a roster of lesser known characters. Thoughts?
Polaris is on the list, so it's valid.
It figures Jean would top out ANOTHER Newsrama list.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Plus they figure she's gotta start making up for lost time.

I hope Jean is in 4 different books regularly. Make up to me, Marvel, for that travesty Hope and the ubiquity of Cyclops.
Sorry Brevoort, Alonso and Lowe, but Jean Grey is a classic character. She'll outlive you regardless. :)

I think Jean's perfect. She fills the A-Lister and young mutant coming into their powers role.

For posterity, the loving rendered fan edited splash page of Jean's memories replaced with their original panels.

You know, as much as I think teen Jean would be a terrible fit on whatever they're planning for XX, I still sort of hope that she at least shows up in some capacity. If this really becomes the defining book that finally gives the X-Women their proper due, I wouldn't want Jean to miss the boat on that.

On the whole though, I'd probably rather that book avoid any supposed A-listers - no Rogue, no Emma, no Betsy, I think most people find those three to be pretty irritating at this point. Storm is fine but ideally she'd be partnered with Polaris as an ersatz-Jean of sorts.

I guess it'll depend on what the format of XX actually is. Once we get a better sense of what the book is actually about and who the team leader is we can likely predict what women will get billing in it.

Wood did some pretty good work in adjectiveless what little I saw it. The only rub is that nothing in that book seems to be all that relevant to the Marvel U.

nice, although there are a few panels where i know the originals exist, but the fan obviously couldn't find them so he replaced it with something close.

    - I don't have scans, but I know in the panel to the right of one of Phoenix' death on the moon is from X-Factor 38 (an Inferno crossover issue).
    - The Wolverine/Jean kiss panel seems more similar to their kiss from Inferno (in Uncanny X-Men 242).
    - The Jean vs. Onslaught panel is from X-Men 53.

If they do turn the book into Storm babysitting a bunch of teenagers, then the book will probably tank. Not to mention that having an all-female team just for the sake of it filled with unimportant characters doing side missions, and likely supervised by Cyclops or Wolverine to boot, would seriously undermine any feminist bent it would carry. But then again, aside from Rogue, Emma, or Psylocke, there aren't a whole lot of recognizable women that they could actually use that people aren't sick of at this point. Ideally of course, the real Jean would be available to headline the book, she's the only Marvel female that can be placed in a lineup with their Big Six and not look out of place.

I'm pretty sure Emma is UXM exclusive at this point. Rogue was supposed to be exclusive to UA, but that book is getting delayed something awful. Storm is probably a given.

Speaking of Jean being in with the headliners.

For those of you keeping tabs on Marvel Heroes MMO they just released their starter packs. For the base price of $19.99 you get access to the game two days early and a series of bonuses based on which character you pick. Here's Jean's:

    http://presale.marvelheroes.com/pres...rter-pack.html

It looks like she's the only female X-Man available at the moment. If you purchase her you get her classic Phoenix costume and, of all things, her Black Queen getup.

EDIT: Jean's also in a few of the premium packs where you can get her Marvel Girl uniform (the 05 black and gold) and her as Dark Phoenix

This game publisher is idiotic. The ENTIRE point of microtransactions is to divide up the cost of the game into impulse purchase-friendly chunks, so that people think they are playing for free without keeping track of how much money they've actually sunk into it. You do NOT advertise the fact that it costs $200 just to be able to fully access all of the game content. That kind of sticker shock is going to drive away plenty of people who would have been perfectly willing to pay that amount or even more over time.

Yeah. I raised an eyebrow at that too. I wasn't expecting to play this anyways, but now I wonder just how arduous it'll be to unlock stuff in the game. I believe they did say you could play for free and still get everything. But $200 just blows my mind.

Don't forget that by promoting it as a "$750 value" they are really telling everyone how much it will cost to get everything if you just play at your own pace and buy stuff here and there over time, and that's not even counting content that will be released later on. And all for what, a mediocre Diablo clone?
