One that comes to mind is "The Truman Show"

Watch the trailer and you think it's a pure comedy show...

Yeah, most of the recent Jim Carey movies have been misleading. That and Adam Sandler. The Fountain was the top five worst movies of all time. Along with The Mummy 3, Jackie Brown and maybe couple of others I don't want to think about.

The Fountain is a masterpiece, it's the 2001 of our time.

Anyway, The Exorcism of Emily Rose comes to mind. Marketed as a 100% horror story, when it's more of a court room drama.

Wrong isn't the right word, but it was upsetting.

    spoilers:
All the way through film Tarzan's gorrilla dad never accepted him until right at the end of the film when he accepted Tarzan as his son - just before dying

If a movie is pretty much comedic first half/dramatic second half it will usually go for a trailer that is about the comedy

The Trailer for Amusement made it look like it would be about the killer clown.

Riding in Cars with Boys starring Drew Barrymore was a good movie with an incredibly misleading ad campaign. Which is a shame because they type of movie it actually was was much, much better than the type of movie they advertised it as (shamelessly cliched and by the numbers romantic comedy about good looking young people in love).

I haven't seen the film, but I remember the trailers making it look like a light comedy
