Cecilia Reyes Appreciation

Man I'm so excited that Cecilia is finally going to be on an X-team come March! I liked the dynamic she and Gambit had in X-23 so it should be interesting to see Marjorie touch up on it. I just hope that she is in the front lines and gets to fight and be in the middle of the action. I just don't want to see her stuck in the lab and whatnot. It's going to be nice to see her interact with Iceman again too (just realized that). I always liked their interaction in operation zero tolerance.

I can't wait to see her in Astonishing. The first title I ever picked up was her recruitment. I know it won't happen but would love to see Marrow crop up too. They had some great interaction:

Yeah no one on the Gambit side gets it either. Its not that CeCe isn't attractive or likable but I just don't see these two ever finding each other romantically attractive unless one gets personality overhaul from the past times we've seen them. I didn't find them that interesting together in X-23 though I liked both of them there, but it remains to be seen what Liu is trying to do.

Cece's back and unfortunately butcher than ever! Needless to say, I'm not a fan of Perkins's take on her. She's more feminine than he portrayed her. She was never a fashion icon (too busy saving lives), but please put her back in a dress. I'll excuse the tanktop by deluding myself that she was just dropping in on Gambit after coming back from the gym or something, lol. Regardless, I'm delighted to see her again. She seems to be in capable hands with Liu. I've warmed to her relationship with Remy - now that it's under the spotlight it finally feels more natural. I hope she sticks around for a long time, even if only in a support role.

However, my Cece-centric issues with Astonishing: it's CecIlia not CecElia. This isn't the first time this mistake has been made, and it's not as egregious as the cock-up with Northstar, but it irked me. Worse for me, was her power signature. Pink? Her forcefield has never looked like that before. Perhaps it was somehow enhanced by Gambit? Heh.

Eh, Kurt flirted with her and she was ok with it. I always thought she just thought Maggot was a punk. Cecilia has done pretty well considering the total of screen time shed in X-Men. Bobby, Hank, Kurt and now Remy.

Like I said on the Gambit and Cecilia thread in the main forum:

I think they make awesome friends, with Remy being an unrelenting flatterer and Cecilia seeing right through him. I feel it's too early in the relationship for anything more.

I've loved Cecilia since I first read her in X-Men #65-66. I always wanted her to develop as a character and be one of the X-Men's most defiant but still loyal members.

What was great about her was that her status as a woman of color and her Latino descent never mattered so much as the balance she had to strike between motivated career woman with real-world skills and mutant with a potentially amazing power. It's especially nice to see someone with real-world skills outside superheroing...how many people on the X-Men can actually say that?
