"Yes. You yourself admitted on some level that you didn't want to look bad in front of the others. Just start training and you don't have to worry about that." She briefly stopped, keeping her hands up as she started thinking of a different method of approaching her own exercises.
Demian stood up and looked Tabitha in the eyes, summoning all of his bravery as he said
"Though I may be lazy Tabitha, need I remind you that it was I, Demian Kingston, who had the highest exam scores of our class back at the institute."
And with that Demian walked back to his barrel
"Practice makes your life longer," the man said, scratching his chin. "So, you're supposed to be an esper, huh?"
Viir shook his head. "You have to keep in mind that this is an operation within enemy territory, and our mission isn't to engage Rowa. A large force would just get the attention of the Dominion military and the last thing I need is Banya Kaan and his southern army chasing me out of Tanisa." He frowned. "Again."
"Now, I'm not saying there definitely won't be any reinforcements. But the whole point about the Pilgrims is that they can move quickly and undetected, thereby achieving things a larger force can't."
"As for my value as an agent," he grinned, "please don't underestimate me, Lord Dryden. I'm not here to oversee the Pilgrims; I'm here to command them. They are living weapons given to me by the king. Let that be a measure of how much he values me."
"This doesn't look easy. But I bet it is!"

Tabitha looked at him like he was an utter idiot.
"So, that's all you have to say. That is all you can bring up to defend yourself." She turned away from him, unable to look at Demian without imagining the various ways he could get himself killed just walking back to that barrel. "You honestly believe that acing one exam is enough to let you survive in this world."
The girl almost wept. "Why am I stuck with such a fool?!"
From his barrel Demian yelled back to Tabitha"So, that's all you have to say.
"If I have higher exam scores"
Demian pointed to Tabitha as he said
"Doesn't that make you the fool?"
She looked back. "No, if only because I actually have something called common sense. Demian, I will dumb down my language just to get the message across." She cleared her throat.
Tabitha pointed back at him. "You. are. a. fuckup. Get it through your skull! I'm freaking out because you're an idiot and you're going to die! The team doesn't need you, but you won't go, so we'll make something out of you! Is it clear now? Do you get it?"
Tabitha shook her head. "Trying to play it off like it does not matter? Demian, you are unforgivably stupid. Still, I won't expect you to understand what I just said. It's not fine at all, but I will find a way to work around this. Try not to drag us down with you when you do die, though."
I can safely say that arrogance and idiocy are a terrible combination. This has been a valuable lesson: Those who do not think are as dangerous as those who can out-think you.
Tabitha started practicing her kicks, turning her back to Demian so she wouldn't be able to save the fool if he fell overboard and started drowning.
