    Yes they are overdoing it.

Damn their stupid greed. Damn them for printing too many pricey books that comic book fans can't afford.

    So don't buy them.

I'm not going to bother with the "event" series themselves, so I definitely won't bother with tie-ins.

As long as the events don't require you to get the tie ins to actually understand the story ala Civil War, i don't see the problem. Just don't buy em if you ain't interested in the character.

Well there you go. NO tie in should be essential to the main story. They should just be there as bonuses for fans of the characters.

These "events" are one of the major reasons I stopped buying comics.

I like that tie-ins illustrate the shared universe aspect of comics, but it's really hard to care when they nigh completely derail plots for six months at a time.

    Agreed.

And the thing is, a lot of these 'events' are badly written, and very frustrating when they derail the plots of better written 'regular' comics.

But DC and Marvel trust that people will continue to buy the event comics and the tie-ins just so that they will be able to understand what's going on. And they'll keep doing 'events', and handling them in this 'quantity over quality' approach, as long as the sales on them are good.

The thing is, too many events, especially too many BAD events, starts to turn people off. And less people buy the comics. I think DC and Marvel may be taking their audience for granted, which is a bad thing.

The capper for me was Civil War.

So many characters being written OUT OF CHARACTER.

If Quesada wanted to let Millar write this idiocy, it should have been set in the Ultimate line, where you could write these folk acting so stupidly and it would have fit.

I think that there are far too many tie-in events. I don't mind the characters interacting with one another, but all of these "OMG THIS WILL CHANGE EVERYTHING FOREVERRRRRRR!!!!!" events are ridiculous. I've stopped reading them; if I'm interested in what happened, I'll just look it up on Wikipedia or something.

The only event I got really psyched for was War of the Kings, but that wasn't exactly Marvel-verse wide.

Friendly Neighbourhood Spider Man...though that was more despite Civil War. I also liked the Cap/IM 1 shot.
Pull List; seems to be too long to fit in my sig...

the big issue is that we have the status quo being changed before people even have a chance to adjsut to it.

Crossovers and events only mean something if you care about the cahracters involved on a personal level. You do this through stand aloens stories or slef contaiend arcs within the title.

why even have seperate teams if everyone's just gonan be mish mashed togehter anyways and have to picks ides

This thing about the last few crossover stories (Marvel) is that they have been based around The Avengers. Two things about that is that 1; almost everyone has been an Avenger and 2; The Avengers are so big that its no surprise that they would be doing huge crossover events anyway, so its at least in my mind, justified.
What I can't deal with is how one character needs three-four books a month i.e.; Spidey, Supes or Bats. Two should be max for these guys. Not to mention they show up in their respective team books.
And lets put a lid on "Pet Avengers" already. I don't see how they're selling that crap. Especially for $4 a pop. If it weren't for the movie franchises, I'd guess the industry would be looking at bankruptcy about right now.
