Default Over-the-top Elizabeth Hurley will finally rid us of Circe

Elizabeth Hurley as Veronica Cale, sure to be a scenery-chewing, over-the-top performance, will effectively wipe out Circe's spot as Wonder Woman's archnemesis, an editorial blunder that has plagued the WW comic for decades. Wonder Woman, with Cale as archnemesis, will no longer be pigeon-holed as a heroic fantasy superhero, stuck fighting dragons and witches.

Circe, I am sure, will still be around, but, in an appropriately and more tolerable (to me, anyway) smaller role. Expect the comic to install Cale, Cheetah or even Doctor Cyber as WW's arch-villain.

Hurley as Cale will be burned into the psyche of the masses and even of us fans, and we will forget all the time the comic has wasted on Circe. This is good news and progress for interpretations Wonder Woman in all media. Bye-bye, Circe...

We don't even know if this is going to become a series. And if it does, there's no guarantee that it will last long. But I think that even if the show is a huge success, Circe isn't going anywhere, nor should she. Hell, she might eventually appear on the show too, assuming one materializes. I'd like to see other villains get a shot too, but Circe is a very important part of the Wonder Woman mythos.

Veronica Cale has always had a lot more potential than has been readily utilized, aside from the fact that her name just sounds good. And, really, my only super-interest in this Wonder Woman adaptation is that it not be all magical magic fantasyland all the time. Equal time for purple rays and weird tech! (Also, kangaroos and doctors in fetish gear! but I'm prepared for that not to happen.)

Which, is not to say Circe isn't worth using, of course. Though, I hope they don't try to do a bog-standard spin on her.

will it be over-the-top? maybe but the whole series sounds like its built for a few show-stoppers (remember all the musical numbers). it could still work. i think there is a thin line between theatrics and camp. but i wish the pilot luck. from what i have been reading (esp. if that millions of viewers number is right?) it will need it.

the thing i am waiting for is more news about the actual star of the show -- the woman playing diana/wonder woman. they can throw all these other names out but i will be tuning in for one reason - wonder woman.

Fantasyland all the time has been the ruin of the WW comic.

I like Circe. I'd be happy to see the character show up in the TV series (IF the TV series is any good and IF the character of Circe shares some similarity with the comic book version).

That typed, I do hope that they can create an interesting, compelling and threatening villain for Wonder Woman with the TV version of Veronica Cale. I don't have a lot of hope since Liz Hurley will be playing the role, so even if the role was well written, it may not be portrayed to full effect. But maybe Liz Hurley will be a pleasant surprise. With the right script and the right director, she may do well in the role.

I definitely hope we also see Cheetah and Ares introduced as villains. I think Cheetah could work as a "creation" of Veronica Cale who eventually goes rogue. And I'd be happy enough with the "Ares in disguise as a handsome businessman" version of the character.

I'm a fan of Circe, but there's potential for alternate interpretations of the character. She doesn't have to be 'Bwahahaha, I'm bad!' She wasn't in JLU... she wasn't really in myth either. Heck, she could even be 'Donna Milton' attempting to fit into a world that left her and others from the Greek myths behind.

If she appears, I have little doubt they'll take some liberties with her. But as someone's said, it's not even a series yet. A pilot, sure, but that's all thus far.

You are wrong. I anticipate that they are only starting with Cale, and if the show is a success they will work up to the larger threats of Circe and Ares.

And Circe is still cool. So you're wrong about that too.

I highly doubt this series will elevate Cale to any higher status, especially not the arch-villain role. She's still relatively obscure in the comics, and I don't think just because she's being used in the TV series that she'll be bumped up to that, especially since the show will likely use other villains, probably even Circe at some point.

But yeah, Wonder Woman has three arch-enemies as it stands. Circe's not her sole major adversary.

I wouldn't mind if "over-the-top Elizabeth Hurley" would play as Circe instead of Cale.

    I like Circe.

Cale was created to be Diana's Luthor. So I guessing she is a good fit for TV.

But anything that denies the fantasy component, ie myth and magic in WW, well that is not WW. Fact, I am still not sure this retooling that I read on the internet so far is WW and if they decide to ignore her other villains...all who have supernatural, magical, mythical elements...then that would be a pity and ironic.

Dr. Psycho would be SO easy to include in the tv series rogue gallery. His powers are mental and thus, no big special effects.

If you are going to make Diana's arch rival Cale then go ahead and put an S on her and be done with it. Cale=Luthor.

Circe is her arch rival is so many ways that fit. Cale is shoe horned into the role.
