Good stuff, as a shout out to my local store, I love SoCal comics in Kearny Mesa. Jamie is great and so is the rest of his staff. As for networking a lot of us on twitter are building up an idea called indie comics alliance - look for the #ndca hashtag on twitter. B. Clay Moore's forum is actually the place I used to post on the imagecomics messageboard and he was talking about Jason Aaron's work for a long time hoping it would come out through image (Other Side). It's how I found his work actually.

Man, I really need to bite the bullet and move to Seattle or Portland. There is almost no one in my town that's actively pursuing a career in comics, writing, art or otherwise. And if they are, they're doing a great job hiding from me. I'm actually working with an artist I met online that lives in Texas. It's difficult collaborating with someone time zones away that I've never met. But hey. Gotta do it.
EDIT: But, to add on, most professionals are very friendly online. I'd specifically like to point out Kurtis Wiebe, who I talked to through this board.
