Rather then simply saying both are awesome, I'm actually going to try to analyze why I like most companies...:

Marvel: These are the characters I grew up with, particularly Spider-man and the x-men and I found their adventures nice and simple to follow, as well as raising interesting moral questions (to one extent or another). I find the characters interesting because they seem to have more inherent faults.

DC: Where I prefer DC to Marvel (despite Marvel's heroes being more humane/less perfect) is that they will focus on Legacy characters more (its why I am a fan of JSA, Freedom Fighters and Infinity Inc) and they explore hero "families" more then marvel do (admittedly this is changing recently with the development of a Hulk family).

I also find DC's concepts more grandoise (i.e large scale), as an example I would point you towards the Speed Force (an intriguing concept that suggests that all speed comes from one place).

I also, generally find that DC are better at using their cosmic characters (as can be seen by the fact that there are three excellent Green lantern titles, as well as R.E.B.E.L.S, ADVENTURE COMICS and LEGION OF SUPER HEROES) and I do think DC has better aliens, and is more diverse (as can be seen within the Green lantern Corps).

    Cheers.

Well I like both because they are both really diverse superhero universes that each have characters I love and interesting concepts. Like any companies though they both make their fair share of crap.

Variety is the spice of life. Just because I like apples it doesn't mean I can't like pizza.

'The marquis. Well, you know, to be honest, he seems a little bit dodgy to me.'
'Mm,' she agreed. 'He's a little bit dodgy in the same way that rats are a little bit covered in fur."

This. Although currently my pull-list is dominated with everything BUT Marvel and DC.
Reading: Fantastic Four, All-Star Western, Aquaman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Demon Knights, Scalped and The Walking Dead

I don't think so, they just publish.

The important thing is that they have in their catalog some characters i like. I should have formulate that differently apparently, my bad.

I don't like companies, I like specific characters or comic books. Both companies have put out stuff worth reading; if it's good, I'll buy it, I don't care who's publishing it.

    Great post.

Generally I find that I like Marvel's characters more, on the whole, but I also generally like what DC does with their characters more. Especially, as you said, their legacy characters and their cosmic characters. But that's pretty much a matter of personal taste. Someone could just as easily say that like how Marvel handles their characters more because they don't focus as much on legacy characters and have them grounded more in the real world than DC.

I like Marvel and DC because both companies deal with superheroes, and superheroes have been part of my life for a long time. I don't follow Vertigo though; no superheroes = bad.

I like Marvel more because they have more stuff to choose from. When I peruse DC's offerings I come up short but, with everything I want from them.

Marvel is better though as I like it's daily controversies, angry fans, and just kewler characters that make thing's so exciting. DC is boring in comparison.
New Avengers, Morbius The Living Vampire, Scarlet Spider, Iron Man, Fearless Defenders, Fantastic Four, Deadpool Killogy, Savage Wolverine, Wolverine, Uncanny X-Men & X-Force, Cable & X-Force, Gambit

I disagree. DC has daily controversies as well, and most are started by fans.

This wasn't meant to be marvel vs dc thread by the way

Sorry. I was just a little uneasy with the peace, love, and harmony vibe that putting both Marvel and DC in the same sentece implied. lol

Well, most controversies I see over at the DC boards at least are character related or race/minorty related but, over here there's a controversy about anything and everything at any given point and time.

Right now, I happen to be reading all Marvel: FF, Cap, ASM, X-Men, Wolverine... However, I prefer to read DC through trades. I don't know why exactly, DC just reads better for me like that. Love both companies though!

They both have good character's with good back rounds, but I think there weakness is there writers or directors. Chris Nolan's Batman was real good it gave more realism to a comic book movie then any other I've seen. Ironman movie's are as good, but made a bit on the playful side rather than realism. DC should work on there up dating of there character's which they have on some. Marvel stories tend to be to big for there writers.
