Always appreciate postings from a person's colleagues upon their passing, as a reminder of not only how much they did but how many people they helped.

this is sad news to hear. McDuffie was one of the nicest creators to post on CBR. Even if you was wrong over something he would reply back in a nice manner. Comics lost not only a talented writer, they lost a nice person .RIP Dwayne McDuffie.

Am I naive to find the Shooter story shocking? Did that sort of crap still happen in the '80s/'90s?

You should read the story McDuffie once posted on his blog about a racist Archie editor he was told about.

This is devastating news. I can't believe I was just watching him discuss season 2 of Justice League, and I find this. The man had such vision, my hopes and prayers go out to his family and friends as well. Rest In Peace.

I had been a huge fan of the Milestone characters. Hardware was a particular favorite, followed by Static.

Then I started to follow Dwayne from title to title and really enjoyed his work. I thought he was put in an unfortunate place by DC during his JLA run.

Dwayne and I had actually exchanged a few emails a few years ago over another, as it turned out, mutual interest.

The tv show MAVERICK. While watching one of his JLU episodes, I noticed he had totally "ripped off" a scene in an Maverick episode, Shady Deal at Sunny Acres.

I tracked down his message board and sent him a message asking if it was intentional. I received back a wonderful email from him about his enjoyment of the tv series MAVERICK and, yes, that was an intentional tribute to the show on JLU.

We exchanged a few emails after that about comics and MAVERICK.

I was not fortunate enough to meet him in person but he seemed like a very nice, straight up kind of guy.

I will definately miss is work.

I actually cried when I heard this, and found myself unable to sleep most of the night.

Dwayne was a wonderful creator and human being, the very finest greatest voice in western animation, always a class act that gave polite answers to his fans, even when we asked something stupid, and one of very few creators who brought a genuine sense of wonder, decency, imagination, joy, tolerance, hope, and humanism to his output.

He likely brought joy to the lives of more children big and small through his animation than any other comics creator of the 21th century, whether through recurrently wonderful shows such as "Teen Titans Go", "Justice League Unlimited", "Ben 10", "Static Shock", or standalone projects such as "Crisis On Two Earths" or "All-Star Superman". This is all the more shocking due to reading his interview about the last mention just a few days before.

Dwayne was the real deal, a rare and precious inspiring beacon of light, tolerance, coherence, reason, and sanity in an industry overflowing with incoherent madness, misaimed petty hatred, hollow rotten catchphrases, giggling juvenile sociopaths, manipulative ideological sadists, and conceited nasal hollywood ugliness.

I can honestly say that I loved his standout work, kindness, integrity, levelheaded rationality, humour, ingenuity, genuine ethics, and sheer decency, and had high hopes that he would eventually be able to get around to producing the Gold Digger animated series that I think he was as born to adapt.

Dwayne was undoubtedly one of the greatest creators ever to grace the western comics medium, whose presence and distinctive touch always noticeably multiplied the quality of any show he was involved with, and as such the loss will be greatly missed by millions of viewers worldwide, whether or not they realise who was responsible for touching and enriching their lives. There are extremely few living media creators anywhere that I would miss to this extent.

My condolences to those he leaves behind, and although he was an atheist, I nonetheless offer my limited hope and prayers for reincarnation to a happy and enjoyable new life. Dwayne far more than deserves it, and the world feels much lesser from his passing.
