I haven't been watching Smallville, but something odd occurred to me recently. This is the season where they're doing all the Fourth World stuff. Yet, the news we've gotten regarding guest heroes amounts to Blue Beetle, Booster Gold and Superboy. No Mister Miracle. No Big Barda. No Orion. No Forever People. I know people tend to like the Fourth World villians more than the heroes, but are they so unpopular that a show will do an entire Fourth World season without including any of them.
STAS didn't do much with them, but they at least had Orion.
If by "all the Fourth World stuff" you mean a few episodes with Desaad, Granny Goodness, and a lame, unseen version of Darkseid, then yeah.
I agree they could have gone further with it, but I think more fans are interested in the LexClone and VRA subplots.
The vigilante registration act.....new legislation promoted by the Department of Domestic Security (USDDS), headed up by General Slade Wilson. (an aside: Wilson, brilliantly portrayed by Michael Hogan, ends up losing an eye and gets and eyepatch, has a pretty sweet swordfight with Hawkman, then makes a comment to Clark that he is "beyond Death's stroke, now.") The VRA puts the Justice League is a sticky spot, because now they find themselves loosely aligned with the Rick Flag and the Suicide Squad in sharing a common goal/enemy.
And yup, Godfrey is in there as well. There is a pretty awesome scene with Lois all dominatrixed up.

Sounds like a rather strange collection of plots and subplots.
yeah, to be honest the whole Darkseid thing seems a bit tacked on, I'm curious to see how (if?) it all ties together in the end.
Superman: The Animated Series (1996-2000)
Good stuff. From Bruce Timm and Paul Dini, the same team responsible for Batman: The Animated Series.
