What trades do i need to read b4 blackest night and what order to read blackest night
I am new to comics and have started reading Batman and have finally got caught up to where i understand whats going on. I am very interested in Blackest Night and was wondering what trades do i need to read before hand to understand whats going on? which order to read the BN trades? and which are necessary to get the most out of Blackest Night? After i am caught up with BN i plan on reading Brightest Day. I want to make this on going event one of my new monthly pulls, so i want to know everything that i need to in order to really enjoy it. so if anyone can please help me i would really appreciate it. thank you for your time.
I'd like to know this too. From what I've been able to find out on my own, you need read Blackest Night and then Brightest Day, but the Blackest Night tie-ins don't seem to be in any particular order and are all occurring around the same time.
The trades are:
Green Lantern: Blackest Night
Green Lantern Corps: Blackest Night
Blackest Night: Tales of the Corps
Blackest Night: Black Lantern Corps 1
Blackest Night: Black Lantern Corps 2
Brightest Day 1
I'm not too sure about what came before that relates to the event, but I assume it would be in the Green Lantern trades. There are nine in the series.
Blackest Night is a dense Green Lantern story with a LOT of characters and you have to be very familiar with Green Lantern history to truly get the most out of it. So start reading the current Green Lantern series from the beginning (all written by the same guy, Geoff Johns)
Here is the list I recommend, in reading order:
Green Lantern: Rebirth
Green Lantern: Secret Origin
Green Lantern Vol. 1: No Fear
Green Lantern Vol. 2: Revenge of the Green Lanterns
Green Lantern Vol. 3: Wanted - Hal Jordan
Green Lantern: The Sinestro Corps War, Vol. 1 & 2
- this is probably my favorite Green Lantern story. It's pretty epic. It's the Green Lanterns vs. the new Sinestro Lanterns in a huge battle for the fate of the universe.
The buildup to Blackest Night starts after the Sinestro Corps War with:
Green Lantern: Rage of the Red Lanterns
Green Lantern: Agent Orange
If you've read all of that, then you're ready for Blackest Night. This is the important stuff:
Blackest Night (the main eight issue miniseries)
Green Lantern: Blackest Night (the tie-in story in Green Lantern #43-50)
^ That is where the main story takes place. It's mostly one story divided into two books... literally. I recommend getting both of them and reading one chapter from one book and switch to the other book, then switch back, etc.
All of this is a good SIX YEARS worth of Green Lantern comics. But if you're truly interested, this is the best way to go!
Maestro thank you so much, that is honestly exactly what i was looking for i really appreciate it. i am so excited lol and i really am serious about reading Green Lantern so this is a perfect list for me. Thanks again.
I would probably add Greenlantern Corps to that list as well. Not as important as Green Lantern but there are pieces throughout that series that tie into Blackest Night. All the GL books work together on building a bigger picture while maintaing their own independence.
thats good to know, thank you. while im collecting these trades and getting caught up on the run would you guys recommend picking up the monthly issues? i kno that war of the green lanterns is coming up soon, and im hoping these trades will allow me to be able to follow that as well.
