Default CBR: Shane Black to Direct 'Iron Man 3?'

Writer/Director Shane Black is in "contention" to direct the third "Iron Man" film. The director's slot has been vacant since "Iron Man" and "Iron Man 2" director Jon Favreau stepped away late last year.

I wish Fav would have stayed, but Shane would make a great replacement. The films he's written for the most part were cool to great and his one directorial gig was the awesome Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (Downey was in it, which probably helped his being in contention for the gig).

and lest we forget he was in Predator..

Fantastic news. I'm hoping that Whedon lays more ground work in Avengers for a "Demon in a Bottle" adaption, only to have Black take it on fully in Iron Man 3.

This will be his second time directing if he gets it. Good luck.

Question is, will he write as well?

Actually, come to think of it, the dialogue in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was rather... Bendisian. Which is to say they both riff from the same guys, but the witty, back and forth patter thing. They've both got it.

This is one of the nuttier stories I've read, but oh man does it have my interest peaked. This whole writer/director approach that seemingly started with Whedon could be a fantastic direction for Marvel Studios.

The Long Kiss Goodnight is the best action film
    featuring Samuel L. Jackson, ever.

That being said, I'd give Shane Black a chance.

Great choice. Shane Black is incredibly under rated in Hollywood and knows how to put together an entertaining action flick and/or buddy movies which will work for the Iron Man franchise. Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang is one of the top movies of the last decade in my opinion and went unjustly unnoticed. He obviously has good rapport with RDJ already so that is an added bonus. Hopefully he can bring Kilmer in as well b/c that combo was priceless...and Monaghan! Gorgeous!

To call Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Bendisian is an insult to Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

I think this is awesome news. Shane Black is a legend in my eyes. I'd have loved him to do that Deadpool film though.

I hope that Shane Black doesn't direct it. He did good work in the past, but Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a piece of trash imo.

Just curious... why do you think Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a piece of trash?

    I think that it's trash because I wasn't entertained.
