Nice list, but I would have certainly included Steranko's "X-Men" logo. It was pretty groundbreaking at the time.
I did consider the Steranko X-Men logo, and it's a classic, but no longer in use on a regular basis, at least on the comics. Might still be pretty prevalent on licensed products. And one could argue that the current Rian Hughes design is a modern revamp of the Steranko design, so perhaps I should have included it. Good pick!

I'd say of the bunch the Action Comics logo is likely my favorite--loved your comment about what it epitomizes. You're absolutely right. Nicely done, Todd!

I ain't no hot dog, yo.
Thank you, sir!
Really interesting and cool article. :)
Read about the greatest series ever, Alpha Flight...from the beginning!
Nice, fun list, the only one I’m not sure about (and I know this is going by favorites) is , I’d wager this (name and logo) -
would still be more recognizable "by members of the public at large." then this.
And if anything when seeing - Flash - even alone, most (non comic fans) would still assume it referred to Flash Gordon.

Good point, Guicho. But Flash wasn't on my list of 10, just an "almost." I hadn't thought about the connection to the strip, though.
DC's classic Bullet is still recognizable by the masses and preferred by many I ask not into this stuff quite as much that new one, not so great a design.
Great list.
You want I should bop you with this lollipop?
Great article!
The images are so iconic and evoke such memories for so many it's not hard to see how/why they've stood the test of time!
I would tend to disagree on the inclusion of Donald Duck though because that, for me, is very redundant of Mickey Mouse (as was the later very similar logo for Looney Tunes).
I think I would've instead included Justice League of America.
I'm still at a loss why Marvel isn't using the Steranko "X-Men" logo because it's really one of my all time favorites.
Of course I'm still wishing DC would ditch the current, and VERY dated, 'Napster' looking logo for Teen Titans and go back to the 80's New Teen Titans logo :)
The JLA logo has gone through many different versions, but the current one is fairly close to the original. Not really the same, though.
Glad you like the Teen Titans logo I designed back when.
Thor's logo when Simonson came on board. And Hulk's - the big rock one. Are some of my favorite logo.
Pull List: Action Comics, Green Lantern, GLC, GL: New Guardians, Justice League, The Flash, Batman Inc, Batman, Nightwing, Batman & Robin, Dial H, Animal Man, Frankenstien, Earth-2
Milton Glaser?
That's pretty cool.
