“Fables” 101 certainly opens with a drab several pages, which is surprising, considering they feature the talking severed-head of Frankenstein’s monster, the (talking) Magic Mirror of “Snow White” and an Ozian former winged monkey…
But the discussion is amusing and the line-work extremely fine, and of course, when the color does brighten, it does so intensely, ‘just like the movie’! Having an on-site narrator in Lily is also fun. As is any appearance of my pal, Merv Pumpkinhead (former agent of Dream), although some might call him ‘Jack’.
Bufkin’s ruminations on empire and civilization are pontifically fine, as is the depiction of Bufkin by ‘the gloom of night’ particularly fine. "Fables" 101 is a lesson on just how much there is to explore through this title, long may it run.
