I was the one who kicked this off; Brett generously followed up with background and that stunning map. I was conscious of stepping a little bit over the line; I'm not in the habit of taking threads off-topic here. But this time ... occasion, opportunity, seemed like an appropriate thing to do at the time.

    Thanks, Aegisbearer and all.

Best of luck to Brett and any other Queenslander's who post here, I hope you guys get through this okay.

I'm in Australia myself, but not Queensland.

Thank you Aegis - as I said people were asking in other threads that they saw me posting on, and rather than derail other discussion or try and pm everyone who might express concern I thought I would just post on a dedicated thread that could be dissolved later.

Yasi has not been downgraded to category 1. It is moving towards the inland mining town of Mount Isa, but is not expected to cause serious damage. Regional flooding is still a concern. Here in Brisbane it is Thursday afternoon and the sun is out.

And may I say that I was touched by your concern. WW fans are the best.

the good news is that damage from Cyclone Yasi was not as bad as anticipated from what i have been reading, and that because it slowed as it approached Queensland, Australia, that it co-incided with low tide, instead of high-tide as had been feared. the fact that there appears to be no deaths is a testament to the good planning of authorities as well as that the evacuation order was taken seriously; that and many buildings were built to withstand Cyclones.

Thank you Cat. Yasi is moving into the Mt Isa area now. Hopefully by this time tomorrow it will have blown itself out.

Been worried about all our Australian friends (no idea who is where, I'm afraid) and hope you all made it through no worse for wear.

And sorry but I agree with Eliseu - humor is a great way to keep your spirits up. I've had to evacuate during a hurricane before and if it weren't for the jokes I think I'd have been terrified.

As it is, cramming into Mom's tiny apartment with our most precious belongings (some comic boxes, photos and an antique katana my sister was using to play Samurai Delicatessen) is something I can look back on and smile about.

I didn't doubt Eliseu's concern for our fellow WW fans and I don't see where anyone else should have, either.

Yeah, sorry if I sounded unsensitive or dismissive but I really did hope everyone made it out okay.

SO glad Aquaman once again saved the day.

It's Okay Eliseu, everything is forgiven after the best comic relief scene with a professional comedian doing the best joke mentioning Wonder Woman ever and by the way cosplaying Aquaman under water. LMAO in perpetual salute to you my friend obsessed with under water powers not meant to be useful against a tropical ciclone.

Seriously what Aquaman can do against a Ciclone before hit the mainland ? It's not better ask for the Flash, Firestorm (who actually is the only character in comic book history to really deal with this kind of phenomenon ) or maybe Ice (all the mention just to keep the power level low and not show any sign of desperation) ?

Playing silly, once Wonder Woman use her invisible jet to chance the course of a doomed space station, why not do the same with a ciclone ?

Anyway, this kind of situation is not unusual in Australian history, did you remember when that Alien Alliance invade Earth through Australia in late 1988-early 1989 ? A Ciclone should be a piece of cake for the Tasmanian Devil (actual and only native Australian superhero collaborator for DC Comics franchises ), who needs Aquaman ?

And if that's not enough you have Paul Hogan, Yahoo Serious, Mel Gibson, Kelly Minogue, George Lazenby and Tom Tresser to save the day, if Heath Ledger still was around we could have the main cast for a JLA movie (Justice League of Australia because America as a brand don't sales good as should be and after all the most cute actors are all Aussies this days, except for Orlando Bloom who is british. )

Yasi seems to have blown itself out. There is much rebuilding to be done in North Queensland, and the state will all be pulling together for a long time to recover. Here in Brisband we are collecting items of clothes and other essentials that we can do without but which are needed now by families who have lost almost everything. But the immediate danger to life and limb seems to be over.

That being the case I would say that this thread has served its purpose - my thanks to those who posted here with their kind thoughts and prayers, and to Aegisbearer for his consideration in allowing the thread to stay up.

    Which reminds me...

Aquaman? We were supposed to be counting on him to save us?

    Really?

I mean, yes, things were bad, but they never looked completely hopeless.

Still, could be worse. Somebody could have mentioned Tasmanian Devil.

Glad it worked out, brett! :)

I'm just going to lock the thread instead of delete it.
