    Question Counterfeit classic comics

The concept sickens me but what known comics have been counterfeited? I was checking up on an original book I'd like to own, Cry For Dawn #1 and to my dismay I read about 100 counterfeit copies exist.

I've also read of counterfeit copies of TMNT #1 and Cerebus (1977) #1. The latter was described as follows.
The printing quality of the counterfeit is actually better than the original, but unless you have a copy of each to compare, this will not be evident.
I personally find this appalling because I wouldn't have known about that an hour ago and would've been completely fooled by a fake.

Are there known attributes to look out for to detect a fake book?

The TMNT fake is supposed to have funny resolution on the cover. Looking in the lines inside the turtles is supposed to give it away. I think the colors may be a bit off too. In Cerebus there are several differences, some can be fixed and some can't. The staples are different but staples can be swapped. The cover colors are slightly off, a few small details didn't show up in the counterfeit. The cover is supposed to be glossier in the fake. There are websites and charts comparing the two, and a lot of people who own both can easily spot a fake from a picture online. I can't though.

Other fakes I know of are Gobbledygook 1 and 2, Batman 497 platinum (doesn't even exist in real life), I hear rumors of people successfully faking a Venom black variant, and a few more I forgot. I think there is a fake red foil variant of something out there. Oh yeah, some Error cover from the Silver Age is being faked on a large scale, I think the guy that owns PGX is supposed to be involved somehow.

There are supposed to be a fair number of counterfeit copies of Eerie #1 floating around. Being a black and white book with a low production run, it was fairly easy for anyone with access to an issue and a photpcopier to make fakes.
