RIP Spider-Man
That cover is... chilling. Just the simplicity of it.
Haven't been following closely but are they teasing his death?
Yes they are.
There will be a semi-crossover about it.
Death of Spider-man Checklist!

They've been advertising the upcoming story called "Death of Spider-man." Weather or not Peter Parker actually dies has yet to be seen. The main theory here is that the "Spider-man" persona in Peter's life will (at least, temporarily) "die," as Peter goes on to do something new. But that's all speculation for now.
Regarding that cover - AWESOME. I've never bought a variant cover (I've come close a few times), but I might change that now and spring for this fantastic cover.
I like Ultimate Comics. - Read them with us!
I also buy: Captain America, Avengers, FF, New Avengers, X-Factor, among others
I remember when Ultimatum happened some people were kicking around the idea that Peter might take over the DD persona. I don't know if that would be my favorite twist, but it would certainly be better than killing him off.
That being said, I'm psyched for this arc and this cover is awesome. I hope McGuinness becomes a regular artist for something in the UU at some point.
You know, after reading your comment, I thought of the flip-side to that. I mean, the title is obvious, but maybe Peter Parker has to fake his death? So his loved ones can live normal lives and he takes on the responsibility as just spider-man?
I doubt this happens, but they always seem to be alluding to something like this. Who knows. Im so psyched to read this, and that cover just really says what needs to be said. Simple and to the point but still mysterious.
Man, what a gorgeous cover.
I love how the solid black shadows of the tombstone just melt into the mask. Very Mignola-esque.
Is it just me or do Cap and Thor's eyes look completely blank, like maybe they're possessed? Perhaps that is what is going on through this arc - at least in regard to the avengers vs. ultimates arc? Man it is going to be tough to wait until August to see how this all ends...
I've seen a lot better before many times but I always thought McGuiness would make a great Spidey artist. More than on Superman and Batman in fact because while his Supe always ends up too cartoonish and Batman needs more realistic artists, Spidey just fits him like a glove(I also always felt the same thing with Scott McDaniel). They should give Ed the Amazing Spider-Man job.
Kurt Busiek Says:"Best Avengers Run, Steve Englehart's run in the 1970s. With Roy Thomas's run that preceded it close behind, and the Conway/Shooter/Michelinie run that followed close behind that
I like the cover concept, but not the execution (meaning I'd rather see a different artist's interpretation). Spidey's head looks huge.
