who did you think wrote better characterization of Sentry? Bendis or Paul Jenkins?
I liked Bendis' characterization of Sentry better.
Paul Jenkins
Bendis
Sentry is at his best when hes a Deconstruction of his DC counterpart
Were as Big Blue Is the Strongest sort of person imaginable Sentry is the Worse
Jenkins, the creator of the character, by definition wrote better characterisation than the guy that who contradicted some of that.
But it seems that what you really want to ask is "which do you like best?"
'The marquis. Well, you know, to be honest, he seems a little bit dodgy to me.'
'Mm,' she agreed. 'He's a little bit dodgy in the same way that rats are a little bit covered in fur."
I don't particularly care for the majority of Sentry stories regardless of who's writing it. I did like the Dark Avengers run with Sentry.
I thought Bendis wrote the better characterization of Sentry. The whole "He's a walking WMD waiting to go off." Just made a lot more interested in the character than what I read of Paul Jenkins depiction.
I think the initial Jenkins version had more mileage for meaning, but the Bendis version is a good tool in stories, that walking, flying, talking WMD. The character we were introduced to, those retcons all meant something, they showed us the flaws inherent in many of the MU's biggest characters and made us feel it by taking those flaws, those hurts and confusions away. Of course, that can't - and shouldn't - last, but it was useful to see it.
A less-introverted Reed Richards? Successful and loved Peter Parker? A Hulk without suffering? The Sentry saved the Marvel Universe, and of course, that was the Void's plan.
Definitely Jenkins. It was so much better out of continuity. I think the only good time he was used since Bendis brought him into the MU proper was during WWH. I also think that Jenkins did a helluva job messing up a really good story when he did the second mini.
But when Bendis had him it was just way too confusing. I can't believe that it's almost half and half considering how much rejoicing there was when Bendis finally killed him off. Bendis added nothing to the mythos except more confusion.
Bendis. Though if Jeff Parker would have been on the poll for Age of Sentry, he would get my vote.
Whatever good Jenkins did with The Sentry, he ruined with the Fallen Sun: Sentry funeral issue.
And he managed to take Rogue's character down with him. So I'l stick with Bends if given the choice.
Especially since I really enjoyed him in Dark Avengers, and it was a shame it only lasted 16 issues.

The only time I liked Sentry was in the first few issues of New Avengers so I guess I have to say Bendis.
Bendis winning a "better characterization" poll?
What Bizarro forums is this!?
Jenkins was all over the place between the original mini, the second mini, and the farewell one-shot. I didn't love Bendis's take on the character, but at least he was more or less internally consistent.

Jenkins, because he wrote the original mini; a turns beautiful, tragic, fun and surprising.
None of which can be said about anything Bendis wrote with the character.
