Been used to seeing the new batman trunkless designs pictures and in the comics. The I saw this image
And thought of how silly they look. Not that I dislike them or anything.

no, not as much as other costumes do
Why is it so hard for people to understand that from an asthetic perspective, they HAVE TO BE THERE. There has to be something to break up the greys or it looks like a onesie with a belt. It's more of a miracle that the new design works without them!
Yeah, the trunks work perfectly from a design standpoint. It's a fantastic costume that has stood the test of time, despite alterations and changes along the way. The core design has remained that way for a reason.
Frankly, I think the biggest problem with that Arkham Asylum figure is the blue cowl with the black cape. It looks odd.
Agree with the above comments, not only do the briefs break up the grey from an aesthetic point of view, but the fact its within the same color family keeps it from being tacky and obnxious. It just flows in the color motif instead standing out too much. I would say its definitely one of the more stylistic "underwear over pants" costume out there past or present.
I think the trunks look better.
I never had problem with the trunks.
Looks silly indeed. It looks silly on Supes, it looks silly on Bat.
There is only two kind of people who can dress like that without being arrested and put into an asylum, super-heroes and those people who love aerobic.
If you don't belong in one of these two categories don't even try it.
The trunks have never been silly. They're an essential design element. It's amazing that the new costume works as well as it does. I think Dick has the superior costume right now just because of the trunks (though I like the other parts of the costume too).
I'm interested, what would you say they should have to break up the grey/blue? There has to be something or else the costume looks imbalanced.
Pull List: Action Comics, Green Lantern, GLC, GL: New Guardians, Justice League, The Flash, Batman Inc, Batman, Nightwing, Batman & Robin, Dial H, Animal Man, Frankenstien, Earth-2
There is thousand of costumes without any trunks. I think they can come up with something different.I'm interested, what would you say they should have to break up the grey/blue? There has to be something or else the costume looks imbalanced.
Nightwing ? Flash ? Any trunks there ?
No of course, in the first case they use the blue to break the black and for Flash the yellow at the waist does the job.
Just need a bit of imagination and work.
I like them. Quite honestly, I didn't notice anything unusual.
I will say, however, that there seems to be a boom in Batman stories, so I'm wondering if there will be a bust.
I find the circus-influenced trunks to be horribly ugly. Batman at least has a big clunky belt to break up the gray. When they got rid of his trunks in the mid 90s, I was so happy.
Superman's a problem though, because his belt is only there to hold up the trunks. Yes, something needs to be there to break it up, but with all the hundreds of thousands of artists and graphic designers, something better than trunks can be done.
The trunks have been a classic part of the costume for years. To get rid of them permanently would be disrespectful to the visual design of the character established by so many great artists.
For once and probably only once, we agree completely. The trunks have been a classic part of the costume for years. To get rid of them permanently would be disrespectful to the visual design of the character established by so many great artists.
DC discarded their history, and now has none. DC will always be in the shadows of their past work.
Which doesn't matter at all. Again, it comes from the circus, specifically the strongmen.
Has anyone here been to a circus lately? How about in the past 20 years?
It would not be disrespectful. You can't disrespect an idea, or a character, because they're not real.To get rid of them permanently would be disrespectful to the visual design of the character established by so many great artists.
