Clean composition notwithstanding, the man cannot draw a decent face. Martin's poses twist characters in anatomically impossible fashions and his interpretation of musculature is laughable. I would appreciate his minimalistic approach more if there was some consistency in his line work.

i think he is an amazing artist. his stuff is dynamic and feels energized and beats most other artists in comics that i can think of. besides another polarizing artist, guy davis.








his rendering of anatomy seems great to me. he doesnt make people super muscular and fake. it seems effortless and natural

That's... a perfect example of what I'm talking about, actually. Doc Strange's torso is monstrously long. Look at his left arm, for crying out loud! The tentacle on the left becomes a roll of millimetre-thick toilet paper half the way up the page, and believe it or not, capes are supposed to have depth.

Superman is supposed to be super musclular. So is Spider-Man, believe it or not. They're biological paragons. And both of them wear spandex. Compare:

Depth and presence.

Martin:

Can you figure out which of those characters is supposed to be flat?

People have different styles. Marcos Martin's isn't to your PERSONAL liking. I get that. But these slams you're throwing out at his craft are very arbitrary and unfounded.

I love Marcos Martin's work and I'd love for him to be solo artist but I'm liking how Ramos and Caselli's art sorta looks the same and is giving me a more consistent feel for the books right now.

I admit the Ditko one is iffy, but the MacFarlane cover consists of Batman's anatomy being covered entirely by his cape. I'm not sure what you're claiming is wrong with Sale's Superman, given that the implausibly-broad shoulders-and-large-chin are a status quo. None of these are action panels.

Well, the face in the top right hand corner is pretty horrendous, and the reflection doesn't match Spidey's back. In fact, the reflection from the right shows his left inner thigh - the one that faces outwards! That is not how mirrors work. Ooh, and the middle limousine is somehow driving away from a completely different vanishing point.

I was referring to his clean lines, not his grasp on anatomy. Martin's lines are nowhere near so uniform.

His art isn't minimalist, it's amateurish. The guy doesn't have artistic flair or a decent understanding of anatomy. Everything just comes off lifeless, awkward and two-dimensional.
