Default CBR: Gage Looks to the Future in "Avengers Academy"

"Avengers Academy" #8, in stores now, is the first of several big issues for the series. We spoke with writer Christos Gage about his plans for the book, which include a glimpse at the future selves of the teen protagonists.

Love Christos Gage, but I really hope McKone leaves the book sometimes soon. He's a very good artist, but he has one flaw that annoys me and keeps me from fully enjoying his work. It may just be me, but I find his facial expressions to be very bland and weird. Everyone looks kind of glazed over and has numb, dead eyes, except when they frown.

AVENGERS ACADEMY is currently my favorite book on the racks. Each issue is packed with drama and surprises. It really deserves more attention! It has the same dangerous feeling as the early issues of NEW MUTANTS and NEW WARRIORS (high praise, in my mind).

Sad to see Mike McKone leaving. I really enjoy his art and his character designs are top notch.

But Tom Raney and Sean Chen? I'd be happy with either of those guys as full-time artists.

But awesome work on this title, Mr. Christos Gage! And the future issues sound super-exciting!

    Disappointed.

I love the rooster but the title left his INITIATIVE flavor behind, it's all about ' will they be bad ? ' only...

And couldn't you find something in-between for Robbie Baldwin ?

I personally love McKone's art. And that picture of Finesse being kicked in the face was so "Sage" that it hurts.

Personally I'm glad McKone is leaving, because his art is the one thing that keeps me from really enjoying this series.

Anyway, looking forward to the Taskmaster issue even though I wish they'd just ignore the mini-series. I liked it a lot, but I just don't want it to be canon.

I've been hearing this quite a bit. What happened to make people hope writers ignore the mini series? I didn't read it.

It retconed the origin of his abilities. Instead of just having them. He took a serum that gave them to him.

Wow i didnt get the far but other problems were thatspoilers:
he was a SHIELD agent and that his memory is full so he forgets stuff when he learns something new.
end of spoilers which is dumb because that would pretty much happen every single day.

More than the retcon of the origin of his abilities I personally dislike the way it changed his character all over. I really hate the thought of him being portrayed from now on as someone who's just going to forget about the people he's met and the places he's been and the things he's done - it might work for some other character, but for Tasky it's too drastic a change from what he's portrayed like in the past.
