One of my favorite creators drawing co-writing some of my favorite characters. His Duplicate Damsel design is so on point, it's scary.
There are four stages of matter. Solid. Liquid. Gas & Don't. It's science.
I am a male. Deal with it.
I'll definitely get this arc. Jimenez is one of my favorites.
Top 3: Batman, Wonder Woman, X-force
That one character there is gay, right? "Cool" in advance, for that.
Gravity Kid? Just because of the costume?
Certainly one of them will be, though, as it should be in a book like Legion Academy.
Do we know who the purple guy with the hair is? Not the big headed purple guy (a rough stand in for Evolvo Lad and Nemesis Kid, it looks like), but the one flying with the Fire-lady and Gravity kid in the last image?
Cool to see that Mysa's protege (or some sort of adopted child of her's and Blok's?) is going to be included to.
Definitely excited. Character creation was one of my absolute favorite aspects of the old school Levitz/Giffen Legion.
Still feel like the main Legion title would be better served by having Giffen as co-writer and artist, though. If we had a Giffen/Levitz "Legion" with a Levitz/Jiminez "Academy", I'd pretty much be in heaven.
Speaking of, when is the Giffen/Levitz annual coming out? I know it got delayed due to Giffen health problems, but for the life of me I can't recall until when?
Regarding a few queries above, the incredible preview art features a number of Academy students who were occasionally showcased during the classic Levitz-Giffen-Lightle runs (though several of those actually saw their first appearances in the 70s).
To wit:
• Comet Queen: the orange-skinned female on the cover preview
• Lamprey: the green-skinned female flanking Gravity's Kid's right in the other color preview art
• Power Boy: the purple-skinned male flanking Gravity's Kid's left in same
In the "Academy" pages in LSH #6, we've also seen other old-schoolers: Crystal Kid, Mandalla, Nightwind, Visi-Lad, Westerner, Urk (the little grey critter), and the two previously-unnamed but ever-present orange floating fish-like creatures...plus who promises to be the new Karate Kid. The only surviving pre-Lightning Crisis student we haven't seen thus far is Shadow Kid (me!), and I'm assuming he's off planetary championing and making mischief with/for Lady Memory on Talok VIII.
Note: Power Boy & Comet Queen are the two figures with Night Girl (who I presume is now an Academy instructor along with Bouncing Boy & Duplicate Damsel/Girl) in the b/w Sorcerers' World-set preview art. The boy with pointed ears in those pages is Harlak, a young Khund who came there to study to be a mage (last seen during the Magic Wars). I'm thinking he may end up being the character Jiminez alludes to with the "very mysterious name that harkens back to some of the Legion's greatest enemies" (Khund Kid? LOL!).
Way to rock being a major Legion nerd-completist, Phil! LOVE IT!!
All of the above, and many others (through all 3 main versions of the Legion) have profiles at http://www.comicvine.com/legion-academy/65-47210/ and http://www.cosmicteams.com/legion/do...onAcademy.html.
I hope this run turns out to be a gateway for new readers to the Legion's self-titled book. I already buy both, and am doing my part to get the word out.
It was suppose to be out in December, then it was moved to January, but now it'll finally be released in February.
Its pretty cool to see him drawing this book. I would have liked to have seen more from at Marvel, but oh well. Hes a great artist.
He doesn't like Earth-Man? I think Paul has really turned the character around, and I think that hes going to be a new, cool long lasting Legion character. Dragonwing has a pretty cool design, and the Chemical Kid does too.
I also hope we get to see some cool new villains in this book too.
"Welcome to the party pal!" - John McClane
Both Powergirl and Shadowlass are characters destined to die in action...or at least were once upon a time.
I wonder if that old "tales of the imaginary adult legion" revelation will ever come to pass...
I just hope up-and-coming artists will take a look at this and understand that if they'll pattern their art style on George Perez, they will be considered awesome.
YAAAAYYYY!!!! TEAM JIMENEZ, FTW!!!!!
While I've always quite liked the characters, my one gripe with LoSH (at least the first volume) has always been the hokey names...*Obvious power signature*-Lad or Lass, *Obvious power signature*-Boy or Girl...I am glad that it has changed somewot and we now have more originality in the "name that superhero" department.
