15 years and almost 20 issues produced! Hah, I'm kidding. I'm sure it's more than 20 issues that have come out,it's just that it seemed to be one of the more delayed comics out there. Given I bet it did better than JSC's Dangergirl or Mad's Battlechasers.
I'm joking. I promise.

I was 13 when this series started. Haven't read anything, but I'll always remember thinking she was pretty hot!
I took this from Wiki, so if it's inaccurate, blame Wiki..

I always liked the look of the character, the character had a Danzig video like look.
Current Pull List: The Walking Dead, Revival, and TMNT (sometimes)
I love Darkchylde.
But man, as a fan, I can't stand how much time goes by in-between a new issue/material. It makes me sick.
How many years was it before we got the Darkness Crossover?
And this was a Crossover that was delayed for the better part of a year,
if not more.
And how many years will it be before we get anymore new material?
For a title that supposedly out-sold Spider-Man, Batman and the X-Men,
it takes a surprisingly LONG and HARD time to get 1 issue of new material on the shelves.
As to the question of how many issues there have actually been?
Well 15 years and about 15-20 issues.
I don't count 1/2 Issues, Preview Issues, and sometimes #0 Issues.
A comic needs to have more than 3 or so pages of new material for me to consider it an actual issue. It's just another way to get our money,
when they do that crap.
Also not included...
Sketch Issues (not new material)
Swimsuit Issue (another way to get our money).
Plus, I think there have been like 25-35 Variants if my count is correct.
I mean some issues had upwards of 4 or 5 Variants. Jesus.
I wish Randy Queen would just focus on Darkchylde,
produce more material or just let someone else do it,
whom can produce more than 1 Issue of New Material a year.
Serisouly. Queen needs to sign with Image or sell the Title to Image.
I am sure there are plenty of writers and artists who could take Darkchylde
and make it bigger and better, and turn it into a hot topic again.
My LCS wouldn't even order the Trade,
because with virtually no New Material for years and hidden from the public spotlight, there was no one asking for the LCS about the Trade.
Thankfully I recognized this and asked them to order for me.
But then I flipped through the Trade and the stories are broken up by random 1-Page pin-up shots, that break the flow of the storyline.
I was left wondering whose brilliant idea was it to do this?
I buy Trades so I don't have to deal with ads and other crap breaking-up the flow of the story as I am reading.
And this Trade just pissed me off.
But yeah.
I Love Darkchylde.
I just wish it was a regular title on the comic racks again.
At least a 4-Issue Mini-Series once a year would be great.
Like I said, 1 way or another, Darkcylde needs to go to Image.
That's the only way it's going to breathe signs of life again.
Don't even get me started on the Carpenter movie.
What's the last "Good" movie he has done?
I love his Halloween, the Thing, They Live, BTILC, and some of his older stuff, but he hasn't done anything worthwhile in years.
Thanks, me too.
Several of our local shops as well as Meltdown in Los Angeles sold out.
As for there not being any awareness, that's conjecture. There was no "public spotlight" prior to issue # 1 being released -- and curiously that didn't stop people from finding and enjoying it. A prehistory is a benefit, not a prerequisite for a story.
I would sure hate it if my local video store only offered the latest films, and I couldn't rent the Kubrick, Carpenter, Hitchcock or Ridley Scott catalog of work. I am not comparing myself to them, only using the analogy to illustrate the ridiculous notion that only what's new is worthwhile.
Some of the best examples of the medium aren't new. I encourage anyone interested in fantastic draftsmanship to pick up Al Williamson's Flash Gordon, a lifelong vision of the heroic, and also Rick Leonardi, and Terry Austin's Cloak and Dagger mini series. Master illustrators.
But if your LCS only thinks what was made last tuesday is of any merit, and that keeps the lights on, then god bless them. Others can get it from Amazon, and it's nice there are options available for those looking.

With book layouts there are certain story pages that need to fall on certain spots -- so you don't have half a spread on one page and then have to turn the page to see the other half. To get everything lined up properly, we used artwork -- no ads. Although, I agree using Darkchylde art in a Darkchylde collection is bizarre. We tried to get reproduction rights for vintage Easter postcards and were unsuccessful. :)
Image did a tremendous job on book production. There are many trades with numerous ads, but not this one. Not a single ad. I'm not sure what you'd prefer to make sure the story pages fall correctly -- blank pages? This is Darkchylde: Legacy and Redemption, with new poems and art, beautifully reproduced. Exactly as promoted. Actually the colors look better and brighter than they were originally printed. We're very happy.
Thanks for picking it up.
You think? I appreciate the passion the character of Ariel Chylde brings out in readers, I'm passionate about her too.
Thank you for being a fan.
