If Alan Moore's going to spend the rest of his sad bitter life insulting the current comics industry and it's creators than he should expect this to happen every once in awhile.
Loving Marvel NOW! right now! Amazing books. Down to just Batman, Batman & Robin, Justice League, JL Dark, Aquaman, Green Lantern, and Green Arrow for DC. New 52 sucks.

I actually joined the CBR forum in 2005. And Alan Moore doesn't need me to defend his integrity. You're missing the point in pretty much every direction tonight.

If you want to get into a fistfight with Alan Moore over his statements (or perhaps fuck him in the literal sense of the word, it's a free country) there's a link. Not sure if you prefer O'Hare to Midway. You can also choose Birmingham to fly to instead of Heathrow but they're about the same distance and travel expense to Northampton, I'm sure.

Archer - So, if we were raised to be "passive aggressive sissies", were you raised to be a loud mouthed idiot who isn't fit to sit at the grown-up table? We showed you respect, which is how I always treat people unless given reason, by them, to do otherwise. You give us nothing but insults and anger. No wonder you admire such behavior in others.

    I call troll.

Personally, I finally tried to read Watchmen and I wasn't impressed with it at all. I was actually really bored with it and put it back where it came from.
I tried it and it was just overblown fluff that everyone seems to love because they have to. Well, I'll be the first to say it isn't worth it and will never be in my collection.

    Also, the movie sucked.

My basic point is Aaron felt insulted by Moore's remarks. Maybe Aaron does feel his comic work is good. So why then should Aaron do anything but respond how he did? If he feels his and his friend/peer's has been done well, why shouldn't he be able to defend them?

Moore's comments were ABSOLUTELY NOTHING but bitter insults from a man who acts like he doesn't want any fame, attention, or acknowledgment for past work, but then turns around and insults creators for not "living up" to his past work. And he does it in the worst snarky way possible. The guys a dick. I don't care what he's written.

I think many modern creators would create new characters and ideas if they could, but the current market won't allow it. I think that Western culture( with american comics being a part of it) has lost it's ability to innovate. It's the same with movies people don't go to see movies that expanded the medium and instead flock to 30+ year old franchises that haven't done anything innovative in years.

Do we (the audience) want creators or custodians. Sure we throw the term "creator" around alot but if you look at the last 30 years of Marvel and DC history you'd see that the audience really hasn't supported creativity. Instead we've supported books out of habit rather then desire to see something ground breaking. The reason why Moore is held in such high regard is because he actually manage to bring something new (a tone and style of storytelling) to a medium that all to often favors custodians of old characters over creators who actually bring new voices to the art form. Sure their have been creators that have put forth great ground breaking runs on various titles, but the fandom rarely supports them. Half (if not more) of the truely game changing comics of the last 20 years are only considered ground breaking in retrospect, and had lackluster intial runs.
Creativity involves breaking out of established patterns in order to look at things in a different way.

He's not my type. I don't like beards.

And you're right it is a free country. So I can say "Fuck Alan Moore" all I want. Thanks.

But Moore is allowed to be a loud mouthed idiot and it's ok? That's cool.

    I call bullshit.

And how can I be "loud mouthed"?? I'm typing on a computer. Quietly at that, the wife's sleeping.

    Default Moore

Much as I love Alan's work, its been my contention for quite some time that as each year passes, he draws one step nearer the nut house.

That’s where I think with ICON, Marvel has DC beat, it does allow creator’s to flex within the company fold.
If you can get over your Marvel fanboyism for a moment, you remember Vertigo comics, right? That brought you Preacher, Fables, The Invisibles, Y: The Last Man, Scapled and other great titles under that imprint that I'm too lazy to mention. As good as ICON imprint (even though three of their titles were brought over from Image) is, it doesn't compete with the titles Vertigo has put out since it started in the early 90's.

It's hard to judge Moore's personality without having lived through the time periods in the industry that made him so frustrated.
Read The Call, African fantasy at its best http://coalminds.com/webcomics/thecall_adaptive04.html

    Default One more observation...

Alan Moore questions the competence of modern comic book writers.

Pre-eminant modern comic book writer replies by inviting him to 'fuck off'.

Isn't that what you call a rhetorical answer?
