Great post.I love this issue.
"I am Loki Scar-Lip, Loki Skywalker, Loki Giant's Child, Loki Lie-Smith. I am Loki, who is fire and wit and hate. I am Loki. And I will be under an obligation to no one."
It is an excellent annual indeed
I love what David Michilinie did for Ock early in his lasting run on Amazing Spider-Man

Interesting that the more modern story has Doc Ock talking on the phone, but the older story has him talking a video viewer. Thought that was kind of quirky.
Banned once...and still pissed about it. Well, okay...more like annoyed about it.
I remember a story wher Dr Octopus and henchmen tried to take over a submarine. I think it was a PPSpecSM annual.
The hench men were all dressed in green henchmen garb color coordinating with Octopus. Who were these people? Where in the world would you find henchmen ready to storm Spider-man and potentially give their lives for Octopus while wearing green uniforms?
It is a common trope in comics and action movies that the bad guy always have these troops that go straight at the good guys without a moments hesitancy. I mean why would you do that.
James Bond has just killed fifteen of your coworkers, why would you immediately jump right into it? Can't back away, maybe take a coffee or smoke break right at that moment.
And that was for Blofeld. No way green uniforms and fat guys with eight arms would inspire me to storm the machine gun nest.

I think the best interpretation of Doc Ock was the Spectacular Spiderman version. In the show he was portrayed a threat that equal to Green Goblin, and Tombstone. He was villain that knew how to get the super powered villains. We even see how his progression goes in the show from assistant of Osborn to the now Doc Ock.
I agree. I will really miss that cartoon, because it was just channeling the spirit of the Lee/Ditkp/Romita era wonderfully. In just a mere two seasons, several of Ock's most infamous storylines got adapted brilliantly:
- The Sinister Six
- The Master Planner
- Gang War arc
I too wish the green light was on for more seasons, at least more revalations for Ock, Tombstone, and the star of the show

They really got Doc down in that show... heck even the period where Ock was afraid of Spider-Man was incorporated into him when he was working for Norman Osborn. I have to say, he wasn't much in his first supervillain appearance (since he was just trying to find a power source for his arms), but he really won my heart over in the first Sinister Six episode...and he kept on rolling to the point that Shear Strength is one of my favorite episodes in the series (being an updated Master Planner story [computers are today's radiation]). Peter MacNichol deserves an award for that episode alone...
I can't add too much to what you've already said except that he framed Spidey for a murder in the novel MAYHEM IN MANHATTAN! That story is actually considered "canon" because Marv Wolfman made reference to it in AMAZING SM #186! Hey, Ock did it all in the name of science! Others may have commented on this already but I feel that Ock is what Peter Parker would have turned into if he had received his powers later in life! "Yeah, I'll show those who made fun of me that I am fit to be their MASTER!" brrrr.
Truly,he should be considered as being in the Top 20 or 25 Greatest Comic Book Baddies of All Time!
Oh and YES, ALFRED MOLINA NAILED DOC OCK PERFECTLY!
TUCO (Eli Wallach): "Whoever double-crosses me and leaves me alive--he understands nothing about Tuco!!"
While fighting Spidey as the police close in, Ock comments:
"I've still got time to destroy you before they get here!"
One of Ock's Greatest moments!
