Well, he doesn't look exactly like the guy, but I mean this is Colm Meaney. One of the MOST IRISH MEN EVER. I've actually seen him in a fair few roles over the years. But never without an Irish accent.

I'd say cast Phillip Glennister. As Gene Hunt in Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes he is pretty much a perfect Dai Thomas... Only Mancunian.

And having heard him do other accents on TV (His 'American' accent in Demons was awful) I'm not sure he could quite affect the necessary Welsh growl.

as for Dai Tommas last week I saw an Episode of law and order UK for the first time :) and the older detective's attitude reminded so much of someone I supposedly knew, now I know: he reminded me of my friend Dai Thomas!!!! I don't know the name of the actor, though

And that's kind of why. The guy in the coat, is Bradley Walsh. He's better known in the UK as a former gameshow host and light entertainer. He's also a former professional footballer, I believe.

Actor is not generally his vocation.
