I've been reading both books to the end (well Zorro ended, Lone Ranger has one issue left), so this is a real nice surprise.
This was something many have been anticipating since Dynamite first announced they had both licenses.
I remember doing this -
Kind of the World’s Finest of the Swashbuckler- Western genres meeting.
Zorro being Batman, Lone Ranger being Superman, although they don’t actually ever meet here.
Let me guess, the aging Zorro unwilling to change is finally taken out by this new and upcoming weapon called the revolver?
Depending on where you place Zorro, there is a span of a minimum about 60 years between them, so yeah this would be a generational - legacy thing.
The Mask of Zorro kind of had fun with a hypothetical encounter between the two, as Zorro’s (Hopkins) legacy Alejandro Murieta (Banderas) encounters a sort of proto Lone Ranger in Harry Love, the Texas Ranger hunting down Murrieta and his brother and eventually Zorro.
Of course they were on opposite sides of the "law" there.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Dynamite crew plays this out.
Love the covers, the Ross one is a great surprise, Francavilla’s (yes, the mustache is finally back!) the pose makes it seem like this will be a murder mystery played out over generations. Lawler’s Death Dealer homage is over the top. And is there still another coming by Yeates?
Great news!

that Lone Ranger book's been alright... too bad it ends with #25.
will probably check this out.
Very excited for this crossover. I've been hoping for this since the announcement that Dynamite was publishing both characters. I've also been hoping for an Alex Ross Lone Ranger cover for a long time. Double-win!![]()
This seems like a pretty interesting concept. I may have to check it out. Between this and IDW's "Infestation" event, it looks as though 2011 is the year of licensed franchise crossovers.
Locke & Key, Saga, Thief of Thieves
Looking forward to seeing this crossover.
RedWinter
Courage is being scared to death & still saddling up.
Never thought I'd see this coming along. I thought Dynamite would do something with Lone Ranger and Green Hornet since they both are blood related but Zorro and Lone Ranger surprised me. Might have to check it out.
Death-of-Hero stories are rarely of my liking, unless they're done really well- but it sounds like that will be the case here. I may check this out.
In a related topic, has there ever been a Batman/Zorro crossover? You'd think there would have been one by now. Even without time travel gimmicks, it could work, what with the Wayne Family having a long heroic history -meaning one of them could have met Zorro- and similarly, a descendant of Zorro could meet the modern Batman. add the right McGuffin -perhaps a secret of Zorro's that Batman must discover- and it could be a great story.
Didn't these two miss each other by a few years...? I thought Zorro (the original) was in the late 1700s. Wouldn't he be retired at this point or at least very old?
I heard about this earlier when I read that Jerry "The King" Lawler was doing a cover. But I thought this was some weird indy comic - I totally blanked on the fact that Dynamite Entertainment still publishes Lone Ranger and would thus be publishing this.
His cover looks pretty nice.....as do they all (especially Francavilla’s).![]()
Does this mean at all that the Zorro ongoing isn't coming back?
I mean it kinda stinks that Dynamite ended the book on a cliffhanger.
Then again, they still say Robocop is still ongoing and there's been no sign of that one either.
The Zorro series of the late 80s early 90s is coming to DVD it was my first introduction to the character of Zorro and I love that it is coming to dvd.
This looks great. I read the first couple of LR trades but have totally missed out on Zorro though have seen some of the beautiful artwork from the title. I will give this a shot as it sounds like a great premise.
