Actors audition for stuff, sign contracts, fulfill them, then find new jobs with the same studio all the time.*
Just because this actor has worked for Disney before, doesn't mean there's some sort of conspiracy at play.
*Edit: And, as pointed out below, I now realize that it's not even the same studio-- It's Sony, not Disney.

Delusional much?
It doesn't seem to be a conspiracy to me, this guy very much seems to fit the youthful look they going for the casting so I don't really see any meddling here...also Disney doesn't have the rights to Spider-Man so I don't see how they could meddle even if they wanted to.
Read about the greatest series ever, Alpha Flight...from the beginning!
And this is just one of the many reasons why your statement is dumb.
Because before Escape, Russel was primarily known as a Disney actor.
Apart from the fact that this movie exists at least in part as an FU to Disney so they can't get their hands on the character.
And keep in mind, not saying you're stupid. But really, the statement was not very well thought out.

Disney's more likely to not want one of their semi-name actors doing work for their competitors.
"We must fight on!"
"We'll die. We fight and we die, that's how it goes."
"Then we die gloriously!"
"There's an important word there, and it's not gloriously."

Thanks for all the great feedback, folks! Surprised to see even a mod cut loose with the name calling.
Disney has made no secret of its desire to get the characters licensed for film rights all under the Disney fold. Just look at last year's annual report.
Marvel/Disney owns Spider-Man. They renewed Sony's licensing of the film rights back in May, but there were strings attached. After Disney seeded Marvel management with its own people, Disney in September declined to renew Sony's rights to the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon. That's a hardball move. And a sign of things to come.
Sony doesn't own the character of Spider-Man, and I don't know what Disney's conditions are contained in Disney's renewal of Sony film rights back in May. The renewal of those rights last May came amid a Marvel management shakeup and then the oddball casting and the firing of Raimi and co.
I'm still combing SEC filings to see what sort of strings are attached, and me--the stupid moron--will share them with you smarter guys. But it's been clear in the trades that Disney wants all of its outsourced film characters under the Mouse label.
From the corporate website for Disney investors, this in the preface to the 2009 annual report:
Marvel’s brand, characters and stories are well-known globally and their popularity cuts across age, gender and cultural boundaries. Marvel’s business really complements ours and all that we’ve been doing to maximize and extend the value of Disney’s creative properties across our businesses, media platforms and geographical markets.
Now, only a moron like me would read that as mixing and mingling Disney's successful stuff--like Hannah Montana. I don't know exactly what strings are attacked to the Sony license, but I wouldn't be surprised if Disney negotiated casting approval.
I am, of course, delusional, to pluck one of the names I've been called. But anybody who thinks that the MU won't cross-pollinate with Disney's existing properties should really think again.
Oh, this from MTV recently. Disney in September refused to renew Sony's license to renew a Marvel cartoon.
"IGN spoke with "The Spectacular Spider-Man" supervising producer Greg Weisman about the show's future, the veteran producer dropped the bombshell that Sony will not continue producing the series, which currently airs on Disney XD and is waiting for the go-ahead on a third season.
According to Weisman, Sony relinquished all television rights to the Spider-Man character in exchange for "some concession vis-a-vis the live action 'Spider-Man' features" from Disney/Marvel.
The news offers a clear indication that the House of Mouse is already doing everything in its power to put the Marvel brand under one roof, or as much of it as possible. While it doesn't sound like Disney/Marvel is any closer to securing Spidey's film rights from Sony, it might just be a matter of time."

I don't even think he's that much of a name for Disney. I showed the news to my sister, who's a huge fan of the show, and she didn't recognize him so I looked it up and as far as imdb shows he only appeared a few times on the show. It just seems that they included that he was in the show because it's his most high profile appearance, so even if it wasn't clear before that this wasn't meddling by Disney it should be even clearer now.
And I don't think any of the mods have commented, but if it makes you feel better to think you're being persecuted keep with it Osmium.

Ah, you do know that during Disney's least creative period, Kurt Russell starred in junk like "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes."
He vanished after puberty. For years. His comeback was the Dick Clark-produced tele biopic about Elvis, and the kid Kurt suddenly showed up as a dead-on Elvis that had nothing to do with his dopey Disney career. He's one of the few kids from that nightmare factory to make it on his own as an adult.
Now, try to refrain from calling people dumb.
Seems to me he made The Fox and the Hound after he was in Escape. None of what you said though does anything to change the fact that he did his own thing after leaving Disney. Just because you were a child actor for the company doesn't mean that's what you always have to be, for the end of time.
And read, I specifically said your statement was dumb. Which it is. Tried as hard as I could to not say that you were dumb. But your statement... hoo boy. It's dumb.
But then, as pointed out, it's hard to even call him a Disney actor. Him having done all of four episodes total of Disney television. 6, if you count ABC, But Cougartown hardly seems to count as the same thing.

That seems much more applicable to you than anything else people have said here.
Sure Disney would like to have all Marvel's properties back but they just don't have the capital to do that as Sony and Fox both won't give up the characters they have for peanuts. And really the whole doom and gloom, cross pollination theory is flawed as DC has been corporately owned by Warner Brothers for some time now and it hasn't been a detriment to them so why would it significantly change anything for Marvel?
.....god, he is pretty!![]()
