Default A 1944 movie with a possible WW connection

I was looking at one of the movie blogs I frequent, and today's post was about a 1944 British film called "Bees in Paradise." The premise is that woman have banded together and moved to an island they call Paradise Island, where they set up a government "by the women, of the women and for the women." At one point, a plane crashes on the island, bringing men to spoil the women's society. I think someone in Britain stole an idea or two from Marston.

We shall make war as we have lived our lives, as sisters of the bow. And our war shall be the war of Amazons against the race of men.

I'll be the one to say it...

    My God, bees...

There, now we can carry on.

Just watched it. It IS highly reminiscent of the Hope-Crosby road films, and lord, they make enough Hope-Crosby-Lamour jokes. The first half of the movie's pretty funny, but be warned that it's got the requisite anti-female jokes and situations. Some of the tunes are snappy, such as the one that goes:

    Women are the greatest ones,
    Women are swell,
    Women are the greatest ones,
    Men can go to... Well.
    Women are the greatest ones!

Still waiting to see Peter Graves show up. What? He's not THAT Peter Graves? Well, darn.

Interesting to see the use of mini-culottes and short-shorts as well as walking shorts. Wondie was certainly in tune with her time, wasn't she?
