Default Your favorite comic, book, etc: Movie or TV Show?

The Walking Dead was a fantastic first season. While I enjoyed the often criticized Superman Returns, I would honestly rather watch the first two or three seasons of Smallville. On the other hand, I can't imagine anyone in the television or cable industry being able to do justice to Batman or Iron Man the same way that Christopher Nolan or Jon Favreau did in their movies. J.R.R. Tolkien's movie versions were unmatched, yet I see this new HBO series about The Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin and unless the trailers are just too good to be true, I realize I'm going to enjoy the TV version of one of my favorite fantasy series as much as I did the movie version of Tolkien's books. I enjoyed the television mini-series of The Stand as much as I did any film adaptation of Stephen King's novels.

There are a lot of famous fictional characters that can spawn much more than a two hour movie. With so many networks on cable and network TV these days, television programming is simply not what it used to be.

So my question to you is..... assuming a good production team and cast is involved, and for argument's sake they give the TV version a decent budget to compete with film F/X OR it's on cable where the censorship is a little less restricted... what would you rather watch from your favorite comic book or book series? The TV version or the movie version?

Oh definately a tv version. There's more opportunity to do features on everyone (if it is a SH team) or to provide more depth.

I'd love to see a live-action television series featuring X-Factor.
I can't see it ever happening though.

I've always felt that the serialized nature of comic books would best fit on TV, but for budgetary reasons I understand why it's seldom done.

A gritty, HBO style Moon Knight series would be amazing. With Michael Biehn in the lead role.

Punisher MAX would be fairly easy to make as an ongoing tv series.

TV is a good adaptation for any book or comic, be it full on series or mini-series. One comic I would love to see adapted would be Invincible, but for some reason, if it was to be made for TV i would want it to be animated because no way they would have the budget to do Invincible for a weekly ongoing show. If made into a film for theaters, I would want it to be in live action for the obvious reasons why I wouldn't want the TV series to be live action. Invincible would possibly be perfect for a big summer blockbuster movie and seeing the fight against Conquest or the Viltrumite War on the big screen would be....lets just say, if done right, out of shear astonishment at those truly epic battles, I would leave that theater and never see another action movie again because they would never, ever live up to that.

I think 90% of comics, IMHO, are better suited for small screen adaptation.

This would be awesome. HBO allows for plenty of graphic violence, some nudity, sex, and mature language.

I would love to see a Lobo HBO series as well.

i think i would prefer a TV-adaption, but only if it isn't one of these low budget tv-shows, some have maybe their charme for people, but for my favorite comic, i would hope for more quality.

It depends on which comic book. Some have way too much to fit in a satisfying movie, while others might need padding for even that.
