Age of X Appreciation

You gotta admit, a lot of you here on these X-Boards are really psyched about what's to come in January with Mike Carey's newest title Age of X. And I believe that it's partially due to it's darker overtones, and character redesigns - which frankly, is a welcome change to what's been going on in the X-Books in the last few years. I mean really, when was the last time you felt this excited with anticipation over reading an X-Book?

I've also noticed that a lot of us find ourselves discussing who most of these redesigned characters are, But I think more importantly, we get a discussion going on HOW these different looks (some more radical than others) came about, and what chain of events you think may have happened without Xavier being the influence earlier on in their lives. Based on their personalities, other circumstances that may somewhat tie into their 616 history, or something else comepletely, what do you think caused them to change into what they've become in Age of X?

Of course this is all purely speculation until we get some real answers when the books come out or when Marvel decides to throw us a bone on what happened to them, so let's discuss:

My entry into the fray is Colossus, and how do you think the spikes on his shoulders and arms came about.

I think Colossus is trapped in his metal form, because his arms are all twisted and melted. In soviet rusia, being a mutant is though!

How official is this thread... Depends on how serious people take it.

As for his arms being reshaped, I wonder if Magneto may have had something to do with it. If he went through some sort of procedure, they're tumors, or if it was self mutilation.

The only problem with that, is that Colossus was protecting Xavier at the time...

Although it is possible that he could have battled the Hulk at some point in his career.

I would think an enemy did that to Colossus ... or perhaps if he were doing a Samson like move, since both arms and shoulders are equally mangled. My question is, does he have to stay in metal form because of the injuries? I mean, what does his arms and shoulders look like when he's flesh?

Maybe he tried to save Illyana but got run down by the tractor just BEFORE his powers appeared. So he is stuck in iron form with two difformed arms.

Or he just crossed Sunfire during an Urss/Japan war and the fire melted him.

Why do we keep making more Age of X threads? We already have like 15 floating around. Hellion looks like a douche. Fitting. Colossus has spikes cause he was run down by the tractor.

I do like that this event makes me consider which mutants really care about Xavier's dream. A lot of the X-Men do. Some have no idea why they are X-Men though (most New X-Men). I mean, has Charles ever spoken to any of those losers?

Half of his body was covered by the chick with the bat wings, so I had to add his left arm, and somewhat redraw his entire left side in order to get a full bodied shot of him... It was easier to just add a shadow effect. I don't have Photoshot, so MSPaint was my weapon of choice.
