Default The Hub's GI Joe, Transformers, and My Little Pony relaunches...

(Someone here will have seen the Pony one so why not include it in the thread? )

Interesting stuff with Prime and Renegades so far, though Renegades beats Prime IMO: it's faster, funnier, tighter, and generally has more life to it. It's like a GI Joe version of Transformers Animated and that's a good thing from my POV. Prime just hasn't quite gelled for me (the fact that the show is admitting the human cast aren't that useful and are just there to be protected is a nice touch, but does knock the guts out of any scene with the kids in).

Megatron and Starscream, on the other hand, are far more menacing villains. Especially Megatron. He's almost too menacing, you wonder why anyone wants to be in his army!

I noted both of those shows spoilers:
killed off a dude who was "clearly" a main character in the opening episode! It was so abrupt I didn't actually realise Cliffjumper was really dead until the second episode (and then it got worse!), because I'm so used to Transformers fiction cheating on that. Ripcord, being a human, was more obviously meant to be dead. The fact both shows went there is quite impressive though, really upends the audience's expectations and removes the comfort zone fast.
    end of spoilers
    "We must fight on!"
"We'll die. We fight and we die, that's how it goes."
    "Then we die gloriously!"
"There's an important word there, and it's not gloriously."

    ....wait, really? MY LITTLE PONY??

Last time I saw all 3 of those referenced together was 1987-8, when the Sunbow animated movies all came out around the same time...

I saw some of RENEGADE's animation online, and was not impressed. If I can find episodes online, though, I'll give it a shot.

I saw a few seconds of the GI Joe one and it uses the art from MIB and Godzilla the Series which does not work at all with Joe because it's waaaay toned down and simple. Then they also had an alien enemy like one of the dudes from MiB and i tuned out.

The Transformer cartoon is pretty much exactly like the last movies where the robots dont care for the humans, Prime goes on with a speech, the villains have just two characters talking while the rest are just drones, Prime goes on with a speech, there is some fighting scene, and then Primes goes on with a speech.

I actually saw the toys in for this on Toy R Us and they looked better than what was used for that cartoon.

Then Prime goes on with a speech.

Btw, for some reason they never say "transform and roll out" they just say "roll out." I found that strange.

PS- i didnt see My Little Pony.

    They've relaunched Pound Puppies too.

Anyway, I thought the Transformers one was good. Didn't see G.I. Joe. I'll have to see if I can catch a rerun of that.

That wasn't an alien, that was a Cobra monster.

I'm not ashamed to say I've seen the new MLP show, and I liked it.

Unlike the original show, the six main characters in "MLP: Friendship is Magic" are a lot more fleshed out, with qualities and flaws, and have an interesting dynamic relationship, rather then the "everyone gets along" take of the old show.

There are Transformers toys out, but not ones for this show. Those are intentionally a far, far ways off.

They need to bring back some 90's goodness like Mighty Max, Gargoyles, and Sky Dancers.

Transformers Prime was really good, and has the potential to live up to Beast War and Animated.

Still need to see GI Joe

MLP is actually really charming and well-done. Makes me wish I had a little girl so I'd have a better excuse to watch it.

I can tell you this much... GI Joe and Transformers were a damn sight better than the movies. And for once, better VO than a bargain bin anime dub. Hasbro definitely isn't cheaping out on these.

Man, GI Joe has always had some weird politics, but this show has some weird politics. Fun though.

Screw the 90's. It's all about the 80's!

I agree that they're better than the live action movies but both these toons feel cheap to me. Transformers has incredibly lifeless backgrounds and the Joe designs lack details.

You know I kinda like the evil corporation angle of Cobra. Makes a lot more sense compared to the 80's Cobra.

Anyway, I love having these shows back on the air. Makes me feel like a kid again.

Ooh, but was it a Mega Monster?

(Blast the internet for not having easily accessible Joe information on it, otherwise you'd have a picture and go "Good lord, really?"...)

And King Arthur and the Knights of Justice! And maybe something based on Monster in my Pocket (we only ever got a bad pilot based on that one)!

It actually still boggles my mind that Polly Pocket still exists in some form while Mighty Max is nowhere in sight.

As someone who grew up in the period that crossed between both decades, it would be really nice to have both.
