Honestly I love Severin's work on this series. He's incredibly well suited for this tale and now that I've seen his work I can't imagine anyone doing it better. The problem for me is that the tone was set by Mignola and Stenbeck in the first arc and I enjoyed the eeriness, atmospherics, and well-paced story beats of that one very much. However, this arc is an entirely different (pardon the pun) beast than the first and almost to its detriment. Pardon the rather inadequate analogy, but it's like going from a standard workout where you're breaking a decent sweat and seeing results, to a regime where you can barely keep up. In other words it's almost a paradigm shift (of sorts) for the reader and one which is too much of a leap for me.

Look, I get that Mike's universe of books can be whatever he wants them to be and are so lacking in eons of history and back story that we literally don't know what could happen next. Normally this keep you guessing approach works quite well, but if you zig when you could have zagged or take things in an entirely new direction you run the inadvertent risk of losing your audience- or in this case at least confusing me and making me wonder what the heck is going on 4 issues into the series.

Almost embarrassed to say this, but I felt the urge to hit the "like" button after reading Neil's comment. Heh.

Really loving the way Baltimore's coming along. The FCBD issue was a real treat! Not feeling Witchfinder at all, unfortunately. Same with the Being Human comic. Sorry, just don't think I'll ever be a fan of Corben on this material. But speaking of covers, I'm loving The Fury covers and all the Baltimore covers. Amazing stuff. Stewart's just knocking 'em out of the park every time.

LOL...wrong forum. I think 'like' is FB. And the only thing I disagree with in what you said is "Being Human". The Mignola/Corben collabs thankfully never let me down.

I can't remember which was my first Hellboy comic: the $1 reprint of Seed of Destruction #1 or Hellboy in Mexico, but to me Corben seems like THE artist for Hellboy, but then again maybe its because of all those one-shots and I came late to game.

    Hi CHEEZE,

I think its because you came late to the game.
In my opinion most hellboy fans consider Mike Mignola THE hellboy artist.

    Hey all !

I've read up to trade 9 and was wondering if ill be lost by picking up the new arc on Wednesday? I know that vol 10 is mostly one shots, but vol 11 comes out at the end of the summer and I'm not sure if i should wait and just read it all in trades.

I only usually pick up Hellboy one shots in issues. But just recently finishing vol 9 im psyched to continue the journey!

You won't need to have read volume 10, BUT you will have to have read the previous mini The Storm (3 issues). The Storm and The Fury are two parts of the same story.

Let me make sure that I understand what you're asking. You are wanting to start the Fury, but you haven't read The Storm yet?

If so, that could be a bit confusing, as there is quite a lot that happens in The Storm. If I were you, I would just pick it up in singles, and then go to town on The Fury.

I checked, but it doesn't look like The Storm is on DH digital yet.

I did notice that Being Human isn't listed in the yet to be collected section. I believe it is going to be collected in a BPRD volume at some point. I'm also wondering about the Allie/Davis BPRD story listed in the under development section. Was this turned into Dead Remembered and instead drawn by Karl Moline? or is there another project that I missed somewhere? I hope it's the latter.

    Added Being Human
As for the Allie/Davis, I am not 100% sure but I think it was mentioned after Davis announced he was "retiring", probably in the letters pages somewhere, so I think it's extra to the already released Moline story.

The Guy Davis and Scott Allie story being collected in the trade paperback BPRD: Being Human is Casualties, a short eight-page story. It's the same story that comes free with a promotion next month.
