The other was in The Abyss of Time, referencing his last mission before he disappeared. The fact that they specifically mentioned Jack the Ripper when Mike Mignola is working on a Witchfinder story with Jack the Ripper can't be a coincidence either...
I'm very curious as to how all this ties into the flashforward in 1983 from the first issue. I'm expecting another flashforward in the final issue to tie it all up.
A bit early for that. BPRD is set 2008-ish (though often fudged to be modern day for marketing purposes). The earliest Fenix could have been born is 1991-1992. I'm really hoping for a Fenix connection though.
Just now reading my 1948 issues - only 2 issues in at the moment - love seeing Broom as the lead again (despite being very good, 1947 disappointed me slightly as I expected another Broom-centric story with the the sugar-high of 1946 still very palpable). I also love the Mignolaverse finally breaking into the '50s sci-fi feel.
Oh, and I certainly love that mischievous scamp, Hellboy!

Preview is up here.
Hmm... really thought that last issue kinda sputtered out after all that setup. Feels less like a finale and more like a middle issue.
Still can't get enough kid Hellboy though - that last panel was heartbreaking.
I'm really curious as to how that documentary crew will figure into future stories. They were the intro and ending to this story.
The last page of this issue was so perfect. I really liked this one. More than usual. I really loved 1948.
Coming out September 11.
