Default After the stardust has settled

I'm a huge fan of everything DnA have been doing over the last few years with the Marvel Cosmic line and the Thanos Imperative is some of their best stuff yet. That said it seems that although i and many loyal fans love the ongoing titles as well as the event titles that they are unable to sustain high enough sales to warrant long runs. So presuming that the fault/cancerverse leaves enough cosmic heroes standing what next for the line. If Marvel are going to officially cancel Nova and GOTG then i would hope they will at least carry on with the cosmic events and i would love to see an anthology title maybe bi monthly with the cast of characters being rotated , something along the lines of 2000AD with DnA and Kieron Gillen writing. I guess only time will tell but i would hate for cosmic marvel to disappear after all of the great stories that have come from two writers that you can tell really love the sci fi hero genre.

I like your idea of a 2000 AD/Epic Illustrated type anthology series.

I think it would also be a good idea for them to do a few mini series and attempt to raise the profile of the Silver Surfer again. How this character isn't Marvel's Green Lantern is beyond me. He was riding high when Englehart, Starlin and Lim were on the title in the late 80's and early 90's. It just takes the right creative team to do it. I think these guys could be the ones.

Totally agree concerning the surfer. It somtimes feels like Marvel hold this character back waiting for the right time to launch an ongoing but for whatever reason keep missing the boat.

As much as I'd LOVE to see an anthology series for the cosmic folks, sadly those kinds of books just don't sell in the market nowadays.....

That said, NOVA and GOTG and the cosmic stuff since ANNIHILATION have had a rather strong & loyal fanbase. The books, while not top sellers, had numbers with very little fluctuation from month to month. So if there's a group of readers who could support this kind of title........it could be the Marvel cosmic gang.

I'm all for this. Cosmic became too much of a two-man show (as opposed to the wonderful Annihilation event, where players across the board were given ample time to shine).

I mean, srsly, did Gamora do ANYTHING in GotG besides fry herself while fighting Galactus? They could have brought back her pirate-wench followers, the Graces.

    Hmm,

I am in love with the Thanos Imperative, and Realm of Kings was good but.... I don't know if it's just me, but GOTG seems like the Infinity Watch where every other member is Pip. I mean, they created a pretty cool team in Annihilation:Conquest. They had Groot speaking intelligently and Cpt. Universe - it was great. But now GOTG just seems like a bit of a joke (to me at least). I am sick of seeing Groot say "I am Groot." I'm sick of Rocket Racoon, and even Peter Quill. None of the humor is catching with me.

It may be controversial to say this, but I'm not sure DnA are quite up to the task of handling Warlock. After reading Roy Thomas and DnA's Warlock, I kind of think the only person at Marvel who can write him properly is Starlin. But that's just my opinion.

As for Silver Surfer. I've never read any of his books except Vol. #3 where Thanos is ressurrected for the start of the Infinity Gauntlet. Was he ever really popular? I don't dislike the Surfer, but he seems to be very mellow - like there'll never be a lot of drama with him. However, he recently rejoined Galactus if I remember correctly so that could prove interesting if they started detailing his exploits.

Read the Starlin/Lim Silver Surfer run. You won't be disappointed. One of the better cosmic collections, ever.

    Okay, will do.

Oh, and I never said but I agree with the TC's idea. A bi-monthly rotating cast would be awesome.

The Surfer has always been popular with the fans (sure, he's never going to be Spider-Man or Wolverine popular) but suffered from poor creative decisions and a lack of push from Marvel. His original series by Stan Lee and John Buscema was gorgeous to look at, but stranding the Surfer on Earth hinders the character for obvious reasons.

They gave him another ongoing series in 1987 and it lasted till the mid 90's, partly because they put good creators on the book from the start (Englehart, Rogers, Starlin, Lim) and also because they returned him to space where he belonged after being stranded on Earth for years and relegated to guest star status. The first 75 issues are great, but it REALLY started to decline after that.
