I worry this reintroduction to the DCU will lead people to believe the book is once again guest star central and that she's using other characters to prop her up.

As for her rogue's gallery. D-list Superman villains? I can see Silver Banshee fitting that but she fought Lex as well. Of course, Reactron was revamped into a knock off Metallo which was harsh considering he had his own thing going on. Just looking at the villains suggested in the recent annual there was Blackstarr and Ms Mesmer from the Gang that were all from previous Supergirl series. Satan Girl and Insect Queen all make me think of Legion more than Superman, maybe that is just me. Then there was the Godship which was the big new villain of the Gates run. I would want Spencer to take another look at Supergirl's past villains before giving us new ones or god forbid a female Brainiac.(who isn't XTC)

Wasn't the female Brainiac Geoff Johns' brainchild?

And while I love the roster for the first team-up he's doing, I agree, I think she should stand on her own. Frequent guest-stars and team-ups seem like desperate ploys, something a book like Supergirl should be well past.

He cooked something up in Adventure comics as a Brainiac/ Lex hybrid. Kill it! Supergirl needs more male villains. I think that is where Wonder Woman's rogues gallery falls down, while not entirely true the perception is that she has cat fights with other women. While its only true of Cheetah.

There could be wonderful stories that come out of this but haters are gonna hate and I really can't be bothered trying to argue against tired remarks by people that aren't reading the book.

I certainly agree, and I think that she shouldn't have to resort to using Hand-Me-Down enemies, but I dunno. I don't mind the idea of her using HER enemies from past series. I've never actually read anything with Ms. Mesmer, so I'd be up for seeing that.

I also really enjoyed the Insect Queen story too. As long as they didn't make her into Lana again, I'd be up for a rematch, though I did dislike how IQ and her goons kinda chumped Kara in #50.

I just hope Kara doesn't become a guest star in her own book, given the apparent plans. Otherwise, I think Supergirl is in good hands. Even though I like the Gates/Igle run, their names were tainted by New Krypton, and the only chance for a new life is a new creative team. But I hope to see them on other books.

Well, that interview was mostly a lot of nothin'. Outside of the usual bland filler recaps of where the book has been, this seems to be the only tidbit that was interesting:

"Kara is keenly aware with the fact that most of the villains she seems to come up against are either younger versions of Superman villains or female versions of Superman villains. This is no small annoyance to her. [Laughs] We're going to have some fun with that particular Supergirl trope and maybe take it in a slightly different direction over the next few issues."

What, is Kara now going to break the fourth wall to make things different, like Byrne's She-Hulk did?

I don't think Kara will be breaking the Fourth World. It's more of an in-story acknowledgement of an out of story problem.

I'm loving Spencer's writing on the Jimmy Olsen backup in Action Comics. I may have to finally start buying Supergirl and read more of his work.

I like Nick Spencer but why was Gates replaced? He has been doing a great job with Supergirl.

I absolutely loved Sterling Gate's work on the book. Best Supergirl I've ever read. His New Krypton tie-in issues made the whole event worthwhile.

Jamal Igle did some amazing artwork too. Toned down the overly sexed up Kara and made her more than just "eye candy".

I'm sad to see this team leave. I'll probably trade wait Spencer's run.

Some people may be worried about the team up but I am definitely looking forward to this.

Last time Ms Mesmer and the Gang were used was by Grant Morrison in JLA which would be tough because he played around with them in an irreversible way. Ms Mesmer seems to be her old self in the Supergirl Annual though. The Gang are basically a team to take down Supergirl consisting of two women and two men. Mesmer can mesmorise you with hypnosis, the other woman is Brains who is the Brains of the operation. Bulldozer who is just strength and Kong who is a martial artist. They need updating of course but it would be quite the arc to sprinkle them through individually and then team them up later on.
