I think a lot of it is about the auction house. Think of how bad the market would get if someone found an exploit offline which made them able to easily farm rares with desirable stats, then saturated the AH with those. The only solution I can think of is to have an offline mode/character that everything (including drops) stays offline.
Titan Quest is still the best hack & slash for me.
The problem is people would hack the offline stuff and then sell it on the web, then they use co-op mode to jump into your game and drop off the item from their inventory. Just by going to their website you risk getting a key logger so the goldseller can hack you and take your money to resell.
Having the auction house online allows you to buy your gold without fear that someone will hack your computer and it it based on supply and demand. It also assures that no one can hack the game to 'create' rare items for sale since all items are generated online from Bliz's end. Its safe and legal.
A lot of Inferno players are saying that the auction house is a godsend because without it you would have to farm for too long for items that may or may not be good enough for that specific character to use and survive with in inferno mode. This way if you get a +400 int weapon drop on your Barbarian you can sell it for 400,000 gold and buy a +400 str weapon for the same amount on the auction house.
Frankly people need to stop complaining about the online component because its not going anywheres, you either use the auction house, you don't use it and farm your own gear or you don't play at all but the auction house and the online component is staying. So you either work with it or you walk away.
Oh, I understand that completely. What I was saying is that the only possible solution would be to have an "offline mode" where you made a barbarian, for instance, in that mode and any items that are picked up, all gold, is bound to that character. When online, you can share everything.
And I wasn't personally complaining about the online component. I don't have issues with it when it's working, and I expect down time. I was around for Burning Crusade, WotLK, and Cata in WoW.
Well, that's exactly what they did in D2. Not sure why it was so hard for them this time around.
And this game is balanced like shit at higher levels. Everything insta-gibs you and some of the modifiers are the champions are goddamn ridiculous. The drops are horrible, crafting blows ass, the story was a joke. What the hell was all this time spent on?
Well the usual complaint is that a game sucks because its too easy, and now it sucks if its too hard? wtf? Inferno is not for the casual player, its for people serious about taking Diablo III seriously (No, seriously :P ) and the people who are doing Inferno will tell you that you have to farm act IV Hell mode for the equipment you will need to farm act I Inferno. You farm the gear you need and sell the gear you dont need to buy the gear you do need.
It's suppose to be something you have to work at, its not suppose to be a cakewalk or everyone would complain that it was too easy. Its like usually ordering mild hot sauce on chicken wings and then complaining that 'Nuclear hot melt your tongue sauce' burned your mouth. Just stick with the sauce that you like, you can always reset the mission to go back and do the content that you like.

I didn't say it was impossible, I said it was balanced like shit. Blizzard's idea of difficulty entails little more than blowing enemy stats up to ridiculous levels. Rather than make the enemy encounters interesting and skill-based they just throw some broken champ pack at you that you've got no choice but to avoid or outlevel. Your skill as a player isn't a factor.
I'm not sure what I was expecting. Maybe games like Vanquish, God Hand and Dark Souls spoiled me as far as intelligently designing a difficult game goes. When I die in a game I feel like I should be able to pinpoint what I did wrong and where I can improve. Not VORTEX!BOOM!YOURDEAD! before I can even react.
[quote]Farming gear isn't "work". It's "dumb fucking luck". I can play all I want, but there's no guarantee I'll find the gear I need to actually advance, now is there? I know Diablo's always had that element of randomness to it, but making progress entirely dependent on that randomness is stupid. It's not even like WoW where you can at least say, "okay this boss drops this item that I need". It's just a complete coin toss unless you spend all day on the AH.

Blizzard did lie though, i think.
They did an update saying that they aren't going to rebalance inferno because only 1.4% of the player base has reached it. That has to be crap, like i said, 6 people i know are in inferno, i played wow with these guys, some of them are good but they aren't the elite of the world.
1 class just happened to do better in inferno because they can kite well, it's why all the first people to pass act 1 were Wizards, because they can kite well, and because of that they didn't have to grind for good gear like a barbarian would.
In 2 months people are going to be talking about how easy the game is.
Nothing's gonna happen without a warning
Well I wouldn't be surprised that 1.4% are in inferno, not everyone is playing the game with the mindset of beating it on inferno. Factor in casual players, factor in players who may never even beat normal mode, people who subscibed to annual pass and got it for free but never played it and really don't care much about the game. Then there are the players who don't progress far because they have 8 alts and are not focussing on one characters progression. Some people may not even care to go into nightmare because 'They beat it' on regular and harder difficulty doing the same missions does not = more content. Eh, takes all kinds.
I'm halfway through Act II Nightmare at level 40 WD myself because I just dont have the time to play consistently.
The furthest my friends have progressed is 2 are on act I Nightmare, and 6 are between act II normal and act I normal because they play lots of low level alts rather than focussing. I am further along than all my friends and they all play way more than me.
I will probably beat the game on nightmare and then go back to playing a little Tera while I still have the free month and then level up my Warlock alt in WoW in anticipation for MoP. Bliz has kind of pooped on my Fury warrior and I don't like tanking new content on my druid bear so I am going to give Warlock the old college try. Diablo to me is something to play for 2 or 3 weeks as much as I can and then come back to it when I need a break from the usual grind.
