The first episode of AMC's "The Walking Dead" lays the groundwork for a show more about the horror of survival than the horror of zombie hordes, though it certainly offers that in a moody, thoughtful series opener.

Internet "reviewers" need to learn the difference between "review" and "synopsis."
Too much of the latter here, and not enough of the former.
I agree. The reviewer had way too many plot points included in this article. This should have spoiler tags at the beginning, since it basically outlines the whole damn show. Thanks CBR, guess I don't need to watch it now.![]()

I totally agree. It's a shame that someone at CBR got an early look at one of the most highly anticipated TV shows of the year and then turns in a plot recap instead of a review.
What a wasted opportunity.

Free your soul and let it fly....
But... The Buy Pile?!
Anyway, once I realized all it was was a recap I stopped reading. It's already leaked online if that's what I'm after.
Sadly, io9 actually did a better review than CBR. I'm not sure who that says more about.
Regardless, looking forward to it.
The Road to Serenity is Paved with Fireflies.
I agree. This was a poorly thought out review. It was largely just a synopsis of the first episode. However towards the end the review crept in.
I've just watched the first episode, myself. So my own 'review' (which can be ignored) or opinion:
The opening is chilling, the zombies are used where necessary - and to fantastic effect in terms of plotting and characterisation.
You really feel for the characters. Something i've never yet experienced with a zombie feature.
Main character, Rick, is a bit weak but the two main support characters are done really strong and more than balance out to give the show some depth.
There are a few highly emotional moments in the episode which drew me in as much as the tense opener.
Looking forward to episode 2.

Rick isn't weak, he's your guide into the world. You're learning with him. Ita an intentional thing.
