While I'm looking forward to this story, Dark Horse handled this about as idiotically as possible. Cancel the franchise's best-selling book, mid-story, to the surprise of both fans and creators, then say "whoops" and allow the story to be wrapped up in a 6-issue mini a number of months later? Really?
Oh well. As always, looking forward to what John and Jan have up their sleeves next.
I've been on the fence for a while about picking up Legacy, but after reading this, I may have to start hunting down the trades. Sounds a lot like the Star Wars I grew up loving.
Oh, yeah, baby. Legacy is going to go out with bang!

Always remember this stuff isn't real.
Jonsing for this comic.

To be fair, I think LucasFilm has a lot to do with the cancelling of various STAR WARS comics. I think they had KotOR axed because of this new/unaffiliated OLD REPUBLIC video game, which now has a comic of some sort.
They probably had LEGACY axed (for whatever reason) too, but when they realized the backlash from fans, recinded it to allow it to conclude.
(I've always heard, too, that Lucas himself is a fan of Ostrander's SW work - in fact, he "may or may not"have been the reason why spoilers:
end of spoilers)

I'd love to get a straight answer from Dark Horse as to why they canceled Legacy at 50, mid-freaking-story no less, put it on hold for a few months, then decided to release a six issue mini to wrap things up.
Why not just, y'know, let Legacy go to 56 in one swoop and be done with it?!
There was an interview here a while back, I think with the creators of the KoToR comic. Anyway, they "strongly implied" that Dark Horse didn't like the growing number of trades for the series, because it was too much for new readers to jump in and give it a try. Then KotoR gets a decent ending at an even 50 issues. It's replaced by the (imho, subpar) SWTOR webcomic reprints. The best part about all that, is that at the time they first started publishing the SWTOR stuff, the full series could be found for FREE on the SWTOR site.
And then the other hit series, Legacy, suddenly ends at 50 too, but there's the wrap-up mini shenanigans.
Has Dark Horse ever had a long running ongoing series? I'm pinning it on the trades bit, or some crazy new business plan that Star Wars comics are forbidden from running longer than 50 issues.
I'd never heard about the KotOR "too many trades" implication. But I can see - what with the Clone Wars stuff - that they'd be concerned about too much SW product being out there. And if something's gonna fall, it'll be the project that DOESN'T have a toy line or cartoon.
DARK HORSE PRESENTS - which featured original material by certain indy creators - went on for over 200 issues, so Dark Horse has done long ongoings....just not very many.
There are a few SW books that lasted longer than 50 issues (SW REPUBLIC, originally just STAR WARS, went 80 or so I think). But with Star Wars, they've mainly just done miniseries (in fact, SW/REPUBLIC was their first ongoing SW series).
Legacy being canceled cuz of "too many trades" (not that that was what was said) or other such Dark Horse issues wouldn't make any sense.
It was their heighest selling non-Buffy comic.
And we know John and Jan didn't pull the plug.
That just leaves one other place to look.
Static Pulse: That's why I like you. You're like four degrees away from being a William Gibson protagonist.
Legacy never appealed to me for some reason despite people saying how good it was. I was always more into KOTOR but now I really want to get into it haha.
after three issues of Star Wars Legacy:War this is still a great book. Always want the next issue now and don't want it to ever end.
i agree that they just should have let the title go to 56 and end it there. why a mini? there's so many hands stirring the pot, we'll never know whose hands pulled away to throw in sleeping powder...

I read/heard somewhere recently that Lucasfilm had Legacy cancelled b/c it conflicted w/whatever new future plans they had for the Expanded Universe...
Comics still reading: Saga, Sixth Gun, Walking Dead, All New X-Men, Daredevil, Fury MAX. DC New 52 isn't the worth the paper its printed on...
